Why does America lead the world?

I saw her on TV sunday night when Macca was doing a gig in Liverpool.

I also wondered if Americans on this site would be as quick to claim her if she was born in Japan and had US citizenship - like they do with Bob Hope when he is clearly English.

Col

As stated earlier, Bob Hope considered himself to be an American.
What we consider him to be matters little as he current resides in a cemetery.
An American cemetery. :D

This thread happened whilst my back was turned so many comments that I might have made are now too late however a couple for Statsman.

In the North of England we have a clothing chain called Jumpers , selling, well no prizes for guessing. Loads of the signs in Japan are also in English and its a bit like being in Holland as the natives speak better English than our kids.

At the Smithsonian a couple of weeks ago I'm sure it mentioned a number of American squadrons being equipped with Spitfires, but info overload could mean I'm wrong. Early Mustangs were fitted with the Merlin engine to improve performance.

Brian

The jumpers question was clarified earlier.

The Mustang was always fitted with a Merlin engine. It was a hybred of an American airframe with a British engine and was used with equal distinction and effect by both the RAF and USAAF.

No Brian, they just used good old American leadership and ingenuity to make computers and software available to people like us.

I think you mean Col's world.
Just for the record it bears few similarities to the planet the rest of us reside on. :D

The part of the planet you reside on has little sense of what is actually happening on the rest of the planet, if it doesn't glorify the USA then it barely gets mentioned on the news.

Your comment confirms this.

You're welcome, but you don't need to keep thanking us, we're not seeking adulation, we just see it as part of our civic duty to distant neighbours:cool:

But what about:

No, it's 'educate Americans day'. You'll thank us in the long run when you become accepted into the real world.

Col distinctly said that I would thank you. As the two most outspoken forum members, you guys need to decide how beholden to you I need to be.

Oh, BTW, thank you in advance for the, no doubt, witty response.

Unlike you, I have no control over the media.
Yet another advantage you have over me.
Yet another example of the advantages of living in Col's World.

BTW, I'm not an American.

Al Gore won his Emmy for creating a company that distributes information by allowing users to post video. I thought You Tube already did that.
