I have an Access database created in 2002-2003 format. When I open the backend to view tables in Access 2007 running on Windows 7 about 1/2 the tables will not open. I can view the design just fine.
The same occurs in Access 2010. However all works well in Windows XP Professional.
The table will not open, not responding and I have to use task manager to close the program.
Any solution to this. Windows 7 has all the current updates and Access 2007 has SP2.
Thanks

I tried to install the repair of Access 2007 in Windows 7 and that did not fix the problem.
I installed Access 2007 in the XP Mode of Windows 7 and the database works fine. I suspect that Windows 7 running Access 2007 or Access 2010 with databases created in earlier versions has some issues.

Did you ever find a solution to this???

I just got a new laptop at work with Win 7 and Office 2007, and am experiencing the same problem. I have tried making a new Access 2007 database and importing the tables into the new database. Still the same thing.

I'm still searching the archives, but has anyone seen this or heard of a fix?

Thanks in advance,

Joe

I have not found a solution on the various forums. I am now opening up Access 2003 first and then locating the database. Sometimes the problem goes away. I suspect the problem is setting up multiple versions of Access and running Access 2003 on the Windows 7 environment.
One thing I did notice. In Windows 7, Access 2010 a table would not open. This worked fine in Windows 7, Access 2003. I finally took the database to the client. The client was running Windows 7, Access 2010 with no other versions of Access and the table opened just fine.
I find it difficult to do my work and still am hoping that Microsoft can become aware of the problem and offer a solution

Multiple versions of Access don't always play nice together. What I've done at home is to put Access 2010 on my main desktop machine and 2003 and 2007 on Virtual XP so they are separated.

We're not running anything other than Orifice 2007 .

I un-installed Office 2007, rebooted, cleaned the registry with CCCleaner, the rebooted, then installed Office 2007 again. Made sure I was running SP2 on Office 2007 by downloading it from MS and running the upgrade, then rebooting and opening Access and checking version. Tried again to open the new 2007 .accdb file with the imported tables (from a 2003 app) in it. Same thing; the computer just sits and spins as it tries to open the table in datasheet view. I can look at it in design view, and my forms open and scroll through records and add new ones. But an't look at tables in datasheet view.

I will look to see if there is a hotfix for this next. After that, I'm out of ideas.

I have a 2 new desktops in the lab that are also running Windows 7 and Office 2007 (same Office install disk, from a multi-install contract), and neither have this issue.

Anyone else have an idea??????

Thanks,

Joe

Just tried running 2 hotfixes from MS, after having made sure I was at SP2 on Access; still no luck. Pretty weird.

i take it they open OK with A2003

this sounds like a way it might appear, with some sort of corruption.

They did, when I was still Access 2003 and Win XP last week. Might be a corruption...I will try a few things to test that.

Made a new database in Access 2007. Made a new table with an autonumber pk field and put one test field in the table also. Made a list of values in Excel and then pasted them into the new table. Only 50-something records. Same result; table and Access lock up.

I'm out of ideas .

I really don't want to un-install Office 2007 and go back to Office 2003, especially since I see the two desktops working with Win 7 and Access 2007 just fine.

Wow, who would have thought about that question to ask?

Thanks for being so persistent. I also disabled the biometric recognition in my HP. Little hiccup on the restart - looking for the biometric recognition.
Tables opened and report that took extra long to open, opened immediately.
I did need to build one maintenance form, as the subform of table data did not show. But appears to be a solid fix for both Access 2007 and 2010
THanks
