Hi all,

I have searched for answers to this question in the forum but to no avail. It can't just be me can it?!?

I have one large Access 2000 database stored on a server (W2k) and two types of client database consisting of various forms and linked tables. Everybody on the LAN has the employee database and we're all running Win 2000 Pro. Only 3 out of the 10 users have the payroll database.

A couple of months ago I added a laptop with XP pro and plugged the employee database in to it - no problems.

Yesterday I added a new XP Pro machine and added both client databases in to it. The payroll database works fine however the employee database takes forever to load up. Navigating from one record to another takes it up to 5 minutes and slows access down for everybody else on the LAN.

I've re-linked tables, compacted client and server databases and so long as the new machine doesn't try and access the employee database all the other users don't complain!

I'm not expecting a quick fix as this feels like a non access problem - but any ideas before I start formatting would be very welcome!

Thank you in advance
