Hello,

I have more network computers with Windows XP SP3
On 4 computers I have the same problem when restart.
Even before log in, a popup message appear:

Wscript.exe - Application Error
The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142.)

Pressing on OK nothing happen and is impossible to close the message.
I tried already more solution but ...not fixed yet.
Looks like a virus, but I don't know if it is, because my Antivirus Trend Micro Worry Free didn't detect any virus.
Initially I had this problem on only one computer and then extended on other three.

Do you have a solution for this case?
Please Help!
Thanks!

Your right it's commonly used by viruses so to check:

Can you get into safe mode ? F8 as soon as the bios boot menu disappears if so check to see if the exe is in c:\windows if it is then virus ! but it can still be even if it's located in the proper place (c:\windows\system32).

Do you run any scripts because if not you can safely remove it (just to be sure simply rename is Wscript.old). If you want to keep it do a Windows repair after removing it.

Now viruses often restore themselves so check in services (start > run and type msconfig), click on services and also in startup (just in case) and check to see if anything odd is there and if so untick (post suspicious ones if you not sure). This will prevent from starting again.

If your now back into XP normally you can either manually check to see if it's stil around by checking in the registry (start > run type regedit) navigate to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce

There should be only one entry (Default) REG-SZ (value not set) - just to be safe you might want to export the registry first just in case.

OR download AVG it's also free and one of the better ones out there ;)

Thank You!
Now is OK
