American eating challenge

I really don't know too much about snopes like you do. I am only going on by what others have told me.

In my experience the use of works like this is a true story tends to mean that it is far from the truth.

Similar statements are "I am from the Government. I am here to help."

The 3 greatest lies.

The used car salesman,

The cheque is in the mail
I will do it first thing tomorrow.
I will still respect you in the morning. (Lots of versions with this one)

in my opinion they should have hung Hanoi Jane for her treason. She got a lot of good men killed.

have a nice day :>)

Same could be said about W.
Bladerunner - in my opinion, it is opinions like your opinion that perpetuate the conflicts between us all and prove we're all doomed.

have a nice day. :-(

how about expanding on that... Not really sure who your talking about... George W. Bush, W.C. Fields, etc.

She was a US citizen (very liberal) and put several men in the ground because of her cavorting with the enemy. In fact, if the liberals in the US (in colleges) had just waited another three months, the war would have been over with us on the top (no,,not win just on top). Instead they gave hope to 'charlie' and he continued fighting. You might think about the 50,000 soldiers that died because of Johnson and his liberal democratic party. 'Go ahead and give them back the hill we just won, If they come back we can take it again.'

I did mean W - as in dubya - as in George W. Bush. But I really could expand that to every president - especially since the start of the 20th century - with FDR and WWII being notable exceptions.
I'm no history expert, and I'm far from estute in affairs that are discussed behind the closed doors of the super powerful that run the world. But as a pacifistic onlooker, it appears to me that every armed conflict since WWII has been unnecessary and avoidable.
If you ever saw or read To Kill A Mockingbird (Harper Lee), the immortal Gregory Peck says to his son who has just aquired a small calibre rifle or bb gun (and I paraphrase):
You will start out by shooting at tin cans and stones, but I suppose the temptation to shoot at small animals will be too much, and eventually it is inevitable that you will tire of tin cans and start to shoot at birds and squirrels. Just don't kill a mockingbird because they do no harm to anybody.
This is more or less how the US has conducted its foreign policy. We develop the weapons (and I participated, as I wrote somewhere above). Then the temptation to use them is just too much. There are some countries we protect and defend, and others that we blow to smithereens. How you get to be a mockingbird, with regard to US aggression, and thus are spared being shot off the tree branch, is a total mystery to me. I am the beficiary of having been proteced and defended since my birth - never have seen an attack on US soil in my life - except for 9/11/01 that is. So I understand that I may seem like a hypocrite. I just think that Jane Fonda is the very least of all you could condemn, if at all - and why she remains a target for villification is, to me, another of life's mysteries.

Like wise, epically the second one.

One time when my business was failing, a government official who was going to help me, wanted me to put the business in his name.

Everyone has their pet war, what's yours?

My own.
Anytime I have taken sides in a conflict that was none of my business, I have regretted it. If I make EVERYTHING my business, then I have to take sides no matter what. That is a terrible postition for one to put themselves into, for no matter what you do, you are harming someone who had no intent to harm you.

Out side of snopes does any body have proof it is not true. I have talked to people in past years that say snopes has been caught in lies and for money. I personally have no information myself but it would not surprise me.

If you actually read the Snopes article, it cites sources, including the restaurant in question, to prove it isn't true. If you can't take the word of the restaurant, then I don't know who you will believe...

Granted!, but who is to say if Snopes actually called the restaurant. Who knows the restaurant didn't lie to save business. I know I am very skeptical, but society has brought me to that position. Congress lies continually, both sides of the isle. Our president(S) have no idea what truth is. Company's have no regard for truth in advertising, on and on and on !!!!!

Anyone can make up anything. If you won't take the word of the restaurant, then I don't know what else to say.

I also have yet to find an article on Snopes I don't trust. Most "proof" that they are not being truthful seems to be brought on with a closed mindset of an individual who refuses to believe research found.

Lincoln has a good point.
You hear all sorts of things from others, read things in books, see them in movies, on the WEB, and in the news. When a newspaper prints a

HEADLINE

on page 1 as a fact, and then they find out their fact is false, they print a

retraction

on page 22. We go through life making judgements about the truth/falsehood of the things we hear, based on our gut feeling and not much more. None of us were present in the restaurant when this supposed incident occurred.

Since I have to go with my gut, my gut tells me this particular tale is nothing more than a fable, made up by someone who wants to discredit Jane Fonda, which is pretty much a national passtime.
If it is made up and presented as truth, that in itself is libalous and a greater wrong than a celebrety asking to go to the head of a line.

Well Said!

Wow, the most I've had is 10oz gammon steak, and that was a lot for me!

I am, you must repent for your sins! Gluttony will send you to hell, child.
