When to eat your cake - heard of intermittent fasting?

Brian, I doubt you'd feel the same were there a poster here who literally slammed Brits with every single fucking post.

Sooner or later you get sick of that shit, throw-away or not.

I'd just ignore ignorance, I learnt to do that as a kid when I first started wearing specs, the four eyes jibes soon ceased.

Brian

Also, you're defending someone who has never contributed a single damned thing to this forum. All he EVER does is try to piss people off, from mocking a dead guy to whining about how much he hates his wife and how much it sucks to be him to his incessant, infantile, puerile whining that Americans are the cause of all evil in the world.

The guy is a waste of oxygen and this forum would be better off without him.

Actually frothy he used to contribute to the technical area quite a bit in the old days, all lost now because of the hack and time although I think some can be dragged out of the archives, not sure about that.
Like me he is no longer working and is out of touch so leaves it to the more upto date and competent.

Yes he can be a pain, but when he is just ignore him and he will give up, don't let him cause the thread to be derailed as has happened here, as I said I am the only one who has replied to the original topic.

Brian

There used to be plenty of N England quips, Brian has shown you exactly how to deal with it.

We don't see so many of them now , just the American ones.

QED

Hey Col - if I might ask you a few questions - I'd really like to know what the health profile of a perfect physical specimen is.
So, what's your cardiovascular picture? How about your BMI? Resting heart rate? Blood pressure? Cholesterol - HDL and LDL? Blood sugar level?
How many minutes of aerobic and anaerobic exercise do you do, on a weekly basis, would you estimate?

I'm really curious about it - I'd like to know just how healthy I would have to be in order to make disparaging remarks about the fitness of the population of a country of >300 million people. Because if I weren't perfect myself, you see, I'd be opening myself up to remarks about my own fitness.

Not that I would ever do such an obnoxious thing.

My apologies Libre for acting like an American and avoiding your question.

I am not fit, I weigh 12.5 stone and am 5ft 11in tall, you can work out my BMI from that. I have a bad back from almost 20 years of lifting my wife Mary in and out of her wheelchair, to and from the toilet and to and from bed.
I have a dicky knee that restricts my walking great distances.
My cholesterol is currently 3 but I do not have my LFT or kidney function tests to hand.
Oh and I smoke and had a heart attack in 2009 February. I drink only a small glass of wine with my dinner.
I don't go to any gym. I did go to McDonald's about 2 weeks ago when Mary wanted a new jumper from the shops, but we only had an excellent cup of tea for 99p each.

I hope that helps your query.

Col

If this isn't over reacting , I'd hate to see you do so!
@ AnthonyGerard - Yes, you would.
I'm sorry Libre but that is a load of rubbish, which is quite astonishing coming from somebody whose posts are usually intelligent.
What, specifically, is rubbish? Or is an overreaction to ask you to that?
My apologies Libre for acting like an American and avoiding your question.
ColinEssex - You can't resist taking a dig even when some sort of apology (yes, that's an English word - you can google it) would be in order.

@ Frothingslosh - YES! YES! YES! to EVERYTHING.

Col is alright. Just treat him as the local grumpy old man and everything is good. This is a forum guys, part of the fun is learning each others ticks.

Unfortunately it's not just Col. He starts the mocking, then others quickly jump in to remind us how sensitive we are as Americans. Which is just another form of mocking. So yes by all means cut poor Col a break.

For me -

So, what's your cardiovascular picture? Dunno

How about your BMI?
12st 7 pounds , 5 , 11.

Resting heart rate?
42
Blood pressure? Dunno
Cholesterol - HDL and LDL? No idea
Blood sugar level? No Idea
How many minutes of aerobic and anaerobic exercise do you do, on a weekly basis, would you estimate?
45 minutes cycling 5 times a week (commute). 1 or 2 games Game of football for an hour. 2 lots of upper body weights (lie 10 - 15 reps - 3 sets over 10 ish exercises), same for legs. Also about 2 * 15 minutes core exercises a week.

In winter tend to run a bit also, summer have a few more leisure cycles thrown in.

Bad habits - drinking - lots of beer. Ex smoker. Currently I'd say I was getting on to a stone overweight. It's unpleasant enough. Used to be maybe another stone bigger - but used effectively the 5 and 2 to bring it down. Have been this weight for 3 years.
Pinch and inch round the middle - unfortunately can pinch 2.

Diet - 4-5 days a week, eat healthily - plenty veg/fruit. Low sugar. Then weekened comes and its far more all over the place. Still some decent healthy stuff. A whole heap of junk thrown in too though.

I have eaten in McDonalds only ever say 10 times. To me age 41 - its always seemed a chavvy, uneducated decision.

The chippy or the curry house though! :-)

You are not sensitive as Americans , tho not sure what that actually means, but you are sensitive. Not all Americans are so sensitive, when my my wife and I spent a good evening with Shaneman in Dallas, he used to be a poster on here, Access was off the agenda, but when our wives started talking girly things we dicussed the forum, Shane was wise to Col , and Rich, but felt that it was unfortunate that others took them so seriously.

NOW IS ANYBODY ELSE GOING TO COMMENT ON THE ORIGINAL TOPIC.

Brian

Anthony mentioned the 5/2 whilst I was typing.

That is quite some achievement to do that much exercise and still be overweight. How much beer do you actually drink? :p

The joke amongst my drinking collegues - is when we tell the doctor how much we drink, the doctor tells us we need to half it. But we already did.

It very easy to do lots of exercise and not lose weight. Used to do lots of running - made we very very hungry!

Brian-
I could likewise say that usually your posts are considered and enlightening, but I do recall your becoming highly inflamed when I once (in all humor) suggested that the members of the Royal Family share a certain resemblance with equine ungulates (horses). Yes, I think you were pretty pissed. And (as I recall, I could be wrong) I was quick to apologize to you.

You see, when insensitive comments cause ruffled feathers - and even more so when INTENTIONALLY provocative comments are issued, the recipient of such comments might take exception to those comments. Often, those who are observers and who have not been maligned may decide that the offended party is just waaayyy too sensitive, and that there is no reason to overreact or to react at all to such trivial language. They may actually decide that the offended individual is the one causing all the trouble.

If it clarifies anything - okay, I'm sensitive. I dislike being the constant butt of disparaging remarks, and for no fault of mine, but for the perceived ills of the country in which I was born, The United States.

As Froth so accurately stated, if the slanderous comments were directed at one of you, I think the discussion might have taken a different turn.

Now, as to the original topic, I am on a strict intermittent fasting regimen of 364 - 1 (I fast only on Yom Kippur - the Jewish day of atonement).

Exercise in itself will not cause you to lose weight , its calories in < calories out that does it, beer is very high in calories.

Brian

I'm 42, 5 8", weight varies from being 20 to 25 pounds overweight.
Walk between 45 mins to an hour every day. This can go up on the weekend.
Light drinker - 6 bottles of beer a month, can go up if stressed at work.
Non-smoker.
Feel uncomfortable with my weight but love sweets (candy, ice-cream) in the evening. Find that very difficult to give up.
No idea on blood pressure, cholesterol etc. Avoid doctors like the plague.

Brian,
Now that Col derailed the conversation you want to what? Some how get this thread back on track? LOL. Why not just get it off your chest and tell us what's really bugging you blokes?

Libre I recall that incident and what offended me was a direct personal insult, further more on a person that could not defend theirselves. Col's rantings are usually general and aimed at nobody in particular, but if somebody decides to take them personally then I suppose they will offend.

Yes you were quick to apologise, as I do if I unintentionally offend, kraken taught me a lesson on that long ago.

Feel free to criticise the UK , I don't run the country and may well agree with many of your comments, I know I'm not fat although my waist has crept upto 35ins while I wasn't looking , so I won't be offended if you point out that many Brits are obese,, too many are.

Brian

In terms of fasting I think I unintentionally already conform to the 16/8 pattern. I rarely eat before 1PM and usually am done eating by 9 or 10PM
I've always suspected that this habit does me no good.

You'll need to talk me through that one.

(not real number I hasten to add !!!!)

I drink 40 pints a week, but tell the doctor 20, as I know I drink too much.

He shakes his head and says I need to drink half as much!

Its funnier after 10 pints! Or if you recognise the scenario of telling the doctor a number less than is the really the case.
