Shocking news about UtterAccess owner (1 Viewer)

I think he's still held. I don't have it with me, but the scheduling order was pretty tight with short compliance dates. When someone is held they generally try to move the case along quickly. If they're out there's no real hurry.

It's so sad, really. From all angles, in my opinion. Any kids that were harmed....society that has to deal with and pay for this case......and the person at the center of it, cursed with an obsession he simply could not shed and more than likely often wished he didn't have. I didn't care for his personality online that I could perceive, but I'm not uncaring as to people who are afflicted thus and cannot seem to snap out of it. It's hard to think of anything good coming of this case, but I hope the right outcome is had.

(I know, I know, now somebody is going to come along and claim Isaac is a pedo lover just b/c I showed an ounce of sympathy for the plight but I don't really give a rat's ass what you think about me - I feel sorry for all persons afflicted with objectionable obsessions, from murder to arson to pedo and everything in between).

We all have our weaknesses. Mine is food. Which is why I now have fatty liver, but I've been on a diet and kept up exercise. I've certainly lost at least 40 pounds from my highest body weight and I'm shooting for more than that - but slowly. The point here is that whatever our weakness, it is a life-long reality to try to avoid giving in to your demon. Self-control can be difficult. I was never into alcohol, drugs, smoking, or sexual oddities, but I still had a powerful demon called voracious hunger.

I never knew Jack but I had a friend who got into trouble for NSFW browsing while on the clock at work. He didn't understand that his IT group could identify sites he had visited, because his browser might have been a no-trace browser, but his router logged outbound destinations pretty well. Those unwise urges can hit us all, and I have some sympathy for folks who have particularly tough demons to face. However, in the end analysis, you have to come to peace with your demons. What is it that Christians say? You have to make peace with your personal god. It happens to be true for the demons, too.

Yes, it's sad that some people suffer mental disorders and unwilling or unable to get help. I recently heard from Simon Wolf, who created athree.com and later handed it over to Gord, who rebranded it to UA and enjoyed a huge success. When Gord retired from UA, he handed it over to Jack.

There's a huge continuity problem with any forum, website, Access application, or any other product, when there's only one owner in control, and no other admins who have full access to the data and the source code. If something happens to the owner, the object is doomed if no one else can rescue it. UA had a huge valuable knowledgebase and code repository.

Does AWF have others who can rescue it?
