Guys,

What do you think the possibility is of the US having for the first time in history a black president?

Will it / won't it happen?

If it does, how will America change?

Open for discussion........

Ken,

How does the southern states feel about the prospect of a black president?

And will you vote for him?

He's got no hope - he may as well throw money down the drain.

1) He's black

2) His middle name is Hussein

3) His last name is like Osama

The white southerners will never vote a ****** in - they won't even help them in New Orleans. $5 million to the whities when the towers fell over - bugger-all to the blacks in New Orleans. Thats the American dream in action.

Racial problems are still massive in the USA (even if it's well hidden)

What is the ethnic split in the US?

Are all blacks eligible to vote?

Apologies for the confusion...

What do you feel would be the plus and negative points of the US having a black president?

And what obstacles do you feel there are to this actually happening?

Cannot answer this without the topic being hijacked or any answer being misinterputed (typo?).

given Cols view on most americans (lol) this would be the same as pulling the pin on a hand grenade and throwing it into the discussion -

My view (and being removed from the states - Hilary Clinton would make a passable/good president - however local views are the ones that count not international ones- otherwise Bush the idiot would not of got into power .

Barack Obama is up against it - to his credit he is a senator(I think) which shows there is hope however is the US ready for a "Black" leader hmmm. from whatwe see (which may be bias) No.. are they ready for a Women leader - probably more than a "Black" Leader

It will be an interesting time if the choice is one of these two ..

If our maerican cousins - given some regional views on this
will the South vote for a ****** - ort will they vote for a women they hate (from memory down south the don't like hilary )

ok... I'll do this until headache pop's back in.

I think having a black president would be a good thing as long as he used is influence with the black community to actually help them. I don't think he would do that but someone like Colin Powell might.

Yeah . Colin Powell - is probably the one would would swing this - on an international front - he has a lot of credit , and seems to be a steady hand

Colin Powell might.

ken

Wasn't he one of GWB's advisors during the beginning of the Iraq conflict or am I thinking of somebody else.

Any how, what do you feel would change under a black president?

I think having a black president would be a good thing

Ok, we'll go with that. I suppose if the choice for you is a ****** or HillaryBabe, you'll vote for him under sufferance.

What about the rest of the voters? what do the polls say?

Col

Colin Powell was George W's first Secretary of State (foreign minister). He was the front man at the United Nations when the US invaded Afganistan following 911.

When W decided to invade Iraq, Powell was again the front man (remember "weapons of mass destruction")? When WMD turned out to be a hoax, Powell resigned. An honourable act by an honourable man. Turns out he was sold a bill of goods just like the rest of us.

If I were American, I would vote for Powell in a moment. He would end the war in Iraq and probably insist the physical damage done be repaired.

Even though we're neighbours with the US, I know almost nothing about Sen. Obama. The US presidential process is a very long, very rough procedure. Each state has their own mini election before we get down to the actual campaign. Some states have primaries, others have caucuses. The first of these is in January. As we get closer to January, each candidate will have to come out fully on where they stand.

Col,

Do you think that we could ever elect a black prime minister?

Roland S. Martin, a black CNN contributor had a piece this morning titled "Barack Obama's black wakeup call"

Basically he is saying the Obama needs to address the black voter and get them to vote for him or he is toast. I included below a portion of his article stating 3 reasons black voters are ambivilant about Obama.

Reason number one: The belief that white voters will not accept Obama so a vote for him will be a waste. Forget the fact that there are thousands of black elected officials in the country. African Americans running for the White House are not the norm, especially one with his credentials. This is a real concern, and one that can't be overlooked and dismissed easily.

Reason number two: Obama will be "taken out" if he wins. The New York Times had a piece over the weekend where a black woman essentially said her way of protecting Obama from harm is by not voting for him. Sounds nutty, but again, it's real, and it's been said many times. I've heard this "fear factor" time and time again, and it speaks to the deep concern blacks have that America has not advanced enough to be comfortable with a black man in the White House.

The third reason: Obama the policy wonk doesn't mesh with black voters. This is not to suggest that black voters don't care about issues -- they do. But Obama has a certain emotional detachment that has turned off many of them. You can't find one major "moment" where black voters have embraced him and showered him with love. I was highly critical of his performance at the June debate at Howard University because that was his crowd. But he failed to ignite the room. One HUGE Obama supporter told me that his daughter went to the event backing him, and came out loving Clinton.
