Sen. Barack Obama - US first black president?

You'll have to ask the Irish not the British:rolleyes:

It's so funny that you keep balancing this line of discussion on a pivot of nationality. I don't know why it's so important to you

It's not important to me, who was it that attributed the term "Chinky" to the Chinese, but then why post quotes from a nation that has nothing to do with me or Great Britain?

The racial bigots who coined the term 'chink'

but then why post quotes from a nation that has nothing to do with me or Great Britain?

to illustrate to you the continued use of it's original meaning in current day english-speaking society in the hope that you'll accept the crass nature of the term. I can post you examples within GB if you like but as nationality is unimportant to you in this line of discussion, the Irish example should do you just fine shouldn't it.

So by your definition I could post quotes from the Arabs on how they feel about blacks to support a racist view of them

Don't you ever get tired of this type dialog?

You're using alot of posts to simply say something along the lines of:

"I don't think the word 'Chinky' is a derivative of the word 'Chink'".

If that's the case would you care to offer an explanation to where you think it did come from? Did it just drop out of the sky perhaps?

I've said nothing of the sort, I've made it quite clear that in my mind I use the term to refer to a building

I suppose that would be good reason to battle on... It's gotten so stagnated I'm down to skimming over about ever fifth word in this thread ...

Like I said, you're unconcerned with the reasons why the word has the meaning to which you attribute to it.

I attribute it to a building, nothing else, I leave some other inference to others

Exactly my point. There is no question from you as to why this word means what it does. Which is why you don't see the term as crass.

Why would I when for me the term is used completely innocuously

So you can better understand other people's differing but correct interpretation of the term and thus possibly empathize with their offense when they hear you using it.

I'm reminded of a question my grandson posed recently when the government made it law that children in cars had to have booster seats, he asked, "why does the government tell me what to do when I have a mum to do that?"

Who cares what Americans say or think anyway?

They don't care what the world thinks or says about their balshy arrogant attitude, riding roughshod over any country their dictator takes a dislike to and then decides to kill innocent people for no reason. So they vote him in again for more of the same.

I'll continue to use the word chinky in relation to the meal / restaurant.

What the Yanks say is immaterial - they do not rule the world (even if they think they do) and never will, as they will find out in due course.

I'm not telling you to use or not use the word. I'm simply illustrating to you why it's a crass term.

Talk show diva and muti-millionaire Oprah Winfrey has now come out in support of Obama.

It will be interesting to see the effects.
I think the average American female has no difficulty in accepting Oprah telling her what to read, what to wear or what to watch.
There is a distinct possibilty they will take offence at being told how to vote.

This may be the start of the end of Oprah's dynasty.

Is Dr. Phil waiting in the wings?
