We have 11 computers on the network. One has an Access back end file. When we try to open this file via the network some of the computers can open it others get the follwing message.

"Microsoft Access cannot open this File

This file is located outside your intranet or
on an untrusted site. Microsoft Access will not
open the file due to potential security problems.

To open the file copy it to your machine or an
accessible network location."

Do not understand why all the coputers cannot open the same access database file. Please Help Regards Keith

I'm guessing you have some kind of security cranked up on some of the computers...

Are all your computers running the same anti-virus software?

Most likely the problem is that they are using IE7. This knocked out many networks using Access. You have to go to the security tab in IE and add the server's location as a trusted site. I don't know how anyone was supposed to know this...

Hi Shadow thanks for the respose. Not sure what IE7 is. All the computors are using AVG anti virus. Keith

How about checking the XP firewall to see if it is letting things through. We had that problem here the other day.

IE7 - Internet Explorer 7 - it has some 'wonderful' features like this one. Without group policies on your network, users can have endless fun knocking out software by changing IE7 settings

HI Ken thanks for the response. Can you suggest where I might check the security. Keith

Hello Dave I will check tomorrow to see if we have IE7. Can internet settings effect access software or a network. If we do use IE7 can you suggest where and how I should alter the settings. Keith

Hi Dave Found security setting on IE7 but still do not understand quite what to alter as when we are networking we are not going through the internet. Keith

Helo Bob thank you for your suggestion. I had thought of the firewall and every thing seems to be correct. The relevant boxes are ticked including File and printer sharing. Is there other areas of the firewall I should be checking.
