a lack of national pride and belonging making them feel as though they need to catergorise to belong or vice versa a country of multi Culturism that in itself doesnt conform to the idea due to historic barbarism (slavery, persecution of the jews etc..) thus they feel the need to catergorise in order to segregate from the country thus there is a sub-concious reassurance that to be american you have to be named as such... racism is a bloody subject which its elevated by both constabularies. Take the uk for example I know for a fact that middle-class white racism is majoritly spawned from media reported gang shootings/killings etc.. thus this middle class of people who are usually well educated but have a certain trust in the media will base a racial point of view on the in's and outs of media attention. The fact of the matter is that a majority of the UK middle class is white, thus proportionally so a majority of black people are in the lower classes. As we all know a majority of crime is spawned off hardship so as you can see we're already in a vicious circle. Coupled with the fact that being in the real world is hard and you are what you are so to speak drills the fact that lower classes beleive the chances of them making enough money to live comfortably without having to work over zellus hours in an dead end job ergo 'youngsters' look for simpler options than 'smarts' , education etc... thus gang life seems a great option for a young impressionable mind seeing older not so much wiser kids dressed in nice clothes from their small time drug dealing etc... and i can go on sorry about the rant but you can hopefully see what im getting at. Although i'm overstating the middle class white racism factor is not half as bad as I'm saying im just trying to explain how people could potential become alot more racist in the uk & im not even gonna get into asylum seekers..

No. It's not the 'unchecked immigration' that's the problem. It's the perception people have of the free gifts that immigrants get.

I don't think many reasonable people would object to someone from another country coming over and working in the UK. We go to other countries, why shouldn't they come to the UK?

Giving free housing, etc? That's where a lot of people feel as if they're at a disadvantage by having been born in the country as opposed to coming to it in later life.

Nor are terms like 'Chinky', which I've frequently seen used here but which my Chinese friends treat the same way black people do "the 'N' word". If anyone is in any doubt about that, go hang around a group of youths in one of the predominantly Chinese areas of the UK and start using it.

Exactly, hate the goverment by all means, but you can hardly blame the poor sods who just want a better life in another country and are willing to work for it. I have heard rumours that some British people even go to Australia for the same reason.

Go to a predominantly Chinese area of your nearest big city and start loudly using the word in front of a group of Chinese youths. See if they accept your explanation and make the same distinction.
