We have an access database on a Lan drive. I made a copy of it on my desktop. I was playing with user level security with the copy. I deleted the copy on my desktop. Now when I open the the original on the LAN drive it asks for a password. When other users open the LAN version they don't get the password prompt. How do I undo the user level security so that it no longer asks me for a password?

You probably joined the new workgroup instead of just opening with a shortcut. You need to run workgroup manager and rejoin the default System.mdw workgroup.

How do i accomplish rejoining the default system.mdw? Do I go under the user level security wizard?

Thanks for your help.

Which version of Access are you using?

Ouch, not sure how you will take care of that then. There is no workgroup manager in 2007 and according to the help file there is only one way to remove security from an Access database in 2007 and that is to save it as an ACCDB file.

I did save as a 2007 accdb file. Closed and reopened and it still asks for the Password.

Does it ask you for a DATABASE password or the user level security password? You can tell the difference if the dialog that comes up has a box for user name and password (user level security) as compared to the database password which has just a single box for the password.

You'll probably need to uninstall Access/Office and reinstall.

bit late, but you have to be very careful with security in access

NEVER EVER mess with the default system.mdw

if you are new to this, develop outside security, and then secure. Copy the unsecured DBS before you do this

You can easily lock yourself out of all your databases - so be very careful.

Thanks for the help guys. I just figured it out. In access 2007 you go under Database tools/Users and Permissions/User and Group Accounts Select each user then hit clear password for all users then the login screen goes away. :)
