No Americans

Had a wonderful 4th celebration with friends and family. Weather was cool but then it usually is here in the Upper Left Corner. And to all my British (and English) friends, cheers!

Cool? That's too bad. We've had 90+ degrees the past 3 days. It's been amazing. Sun and fun! It was a great weekend.

No only Racist Brits use that. As for hispanic that is wrong also. Hispanic (Spanish: hispano, hispánico) is a term that originally denoted a relationship to the ancient Hispania << Part of Spain.

This is way to easy! What the hell happend over there?
Are you on drugs?
Still more recently, primarily in the United States, the term has also (or alternatively) been used to denote the culture and people of countries formerly ruled by the Spanish Empire, usually with a majority of the population speaking the Spanish language. Collectively known as Hispanic America, this definition includes Mexico, the majority of the Central and South American countries, and most of the Greater Antilles. The term may include a relation to the Iberian Peninsula to include Portuguese people and/or their diaspora in Brazil[citation needed]. The nations formerly pertaining to the Spanish East Indies are sometimes loosely included in this definition, as their cultures have some Spanish or Latin American elements.

Kryst51 - Happy belated birthday wishes to your grandfather.

July 4th is fun if you live near the border, we get July 1st celebrations for Canada day followed by the July 4th partys for Independence Day. :D

Thanks for the well wishes! It was an amazing day, here in Houston the weather seemed to clear up especially for the day. ;)

It is my grandfather's birthday as well, so it just made it 10 times more fantastic.

No it actually came from one of your paranoid rags. "Poll reveals 40pc of Muslims want sharia law in UK" http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/ukn...ls-40pc-of-Muslims-want-sharia-law-in-UK.html

You might want to check with France, Demark and a few others. Believe it or not you are being out breed 2:1.
The article doesn't say it's going to happen, just that a substantial proportion of those questioned would be in favour of it.

Ask a thousand five year olds if chocolate should be served at every meal. Their responses would necessarily be adopted as law.

Thanks! He turned 78!

That sounds AWESOME! Two days of celebration, do you guys get two holiday days, or just one? :)

Re: Yes Americans

Sorry Rich, part of my comments were directed at Colin's remarks, which seem be deleted now... hmmm I'll accept your interpretation of Hispanic ...have a nice night.
Oh and yes I am on drugs, the kind that comes in twelve ounce bottles:p

Hasta La Vesta
baby
I assume that's 12fl.oz. which doesn't exist here anymore:mad:
Anyway it depends on the contents:D

You don't have 12 fl. oz bottles or cans of beer? What sizes do yours come in (conversions of measurements considered)? That's pretty standard here as the normal size.

We have quite a variety depending on whether it is cans or bottles. I remember bottles as 16 and 24 oz., but that was a few years ago. Soda still comes in 12 oz cans (you also can get 8 oz).

There are quite a few bottle sizes, but the standard for cases, 12 packs, or 6 packs remains at 12 fl oz for both cans and bottles. ;)

From the same article

Twenty per cent felt sympathy with the July 7 bombers' motives, and 75 per cent did not. One per cent felt the attacks were "right".

Those one per cent have just marked themselves down on a watch list.

I wonder how many agreed with that one per cent but at least had the brain cells to keep their mouths shut.

It's all the bloody French metric system:mad:

As is the rest of the world it seems. Isn't that a better system for measurement anyway? I know it seems far easier to understand than ours. Here we learn and use both...

Personally I prefer the IMS (Indeterminate Measuring System) where "skosh", "dab" and "little bit" are definite values, as are "Humongeous" "Whoa!" and "scads"

Yes, because I used the American word "spic".

Vass took exception to it and warned me by PM and deleted my post.

Odd that a Yank can take exception to someone using one of their words - still that's Americans for you.

It's just as racist and unnice thing to say here in America as any other word considered so....

Would it be odd if an English Mod reacted to an offensive English word:confused:

But it's ok in the UK to call Germans "crauts" or Japanese "Japs" or the French "Frogs" or Americans to call the English "Limies"? etc etc etc

Also can I point out I am not in America - I said it in the UK.

Depends - it seems it's ok to swear foul language on these forums without a problem. I never use foul language. And copying an American word in everyday use doesn't seem bad to me.

Well, unless the owner wants to limit who is able to use this site (ie. no Americans as they find this language offensive), it's in his best interest to have his mods delete any offensive language, whether one country out of the many that use this site doesn't find it so.

Colin knows full well that the majority of Americans don't use racial offensive words every day. He disappeared for a few days, then came back to stir the pot and test the limits again. Well, congratulations, he's pushed the limits and the staff here has decided it's done.

Using words like Jap, Craut, or Limey (I've never heard an American refer to an Englishman this way) are not racial slurs. They refer to someone's nationality. There's a huge difference IMO. I'm not offended when I'm called a Yank. There were concerns about the racial words being used so I deleted them. First and foremost this is a professional forum and I don't think we want to segregate ourselves from potential members because we allow racial speech to be used.
