That is most wonderful J........I would be proud too.

My girls are good, growing, and prospering and aging beyond their years. I simply wish I could keep the cuddling age forever..

Col, Please learn to enjoy the day without getting into all kinds of arguments. Jsanders was proud of his daughter's accomplishments. Let us keep it that way.

Well said, some of us get fed up with every thread becoming a battle.

J we have a saying in these parts
" A son is a son till he takes a wife, a daughter's a daughter all of her life"

So you will have many more happy years, mine wont let me walk home from their houses in these dark evenings but insist on driving me, its only a mile, and waiting till I am safely inside.

On my recent 65th they had fun with me, handed me an envelope which contained a rhyming clue which was the start of a treasure hunt round the house until I finally ended up with a 10yr old Tomatin, a fine predinner malt.

Daughters, I love em.

My girl's 5.5, loves reading - she's up to level 14 in her school readers, which from what I understand is 1-2 years ahead of the average :D
She learnt how to use a mouse at about age 3.
She can tie her own shoes, most of the time ;)

So yours is the house with the sign

Beware of the kids

on the gate

Actually that is exactly what was on a sign that we used to have by the Front Door.

Now that they have their own places and we have moved the sign has been relegated to the rear garden

:D :D :D

Thanks All,

Really nice words to a man standing on the threshold of his little girl growing up and flying to coop.

Yeah, all people should be proud of their children. And in case any are wondering, I was pretty strict on her growing up. Strict but also very encouraging. She didn’t need to do bad things to get my attention and when she did…well it usually wasn’t the kind she would want.

I picked her up from school for 15 years (including daycare) and even had a desk set up for her in my office for homework. I went to her ballet lessons, her orchestra concerts, and her awards ceremonies.

And I was rewarded with a smile and an “I love you” everyday of my life.

I feel bad for those who, for whatever reason, were deprived of all that.

why? whats wrong with puplic transport / walking / bicycle

I see loads of parents in their 4 x 4's dropping off their little dears trying to get with 10 feet of the schoolgates. Children these days have it too easy. Most kids are obese becuse of no exercise, and too much American junk food.

Thats why some [not yours Jenny] kids are a pain to society, they need a good smacking every now and then - sad thing is, if a teacher trys it, they get sued.

I remember playing up at school, getting a ruler across my hand so hard it swelled up - my mother said I deserved it if I was playing up, and she was right - no sympathy there. Don't muck about and you didn't get hit.

These days kids know they're safe so they become a pain to everyone

I love kids, I went to school with some, but couldn't eat a whole one;)

Well bicycles or walking wouldn’t be practical in Northern Virginia she lives 5 miles from her school and it’s a rather dangerous road to drive on, let alone ride a bike.

At first I picked her up because I didn’t want her to be a latch key kid, and her mother works as a decorator 25 miles away so her job keeps her later than my daughter gets out of school. Then it became our ritual, a chance for us to talk and when she was young practice math on the way home.

Later as she grew up I would not have traded all those days picking her for anything.

And your right Col she is not obese or even fat she’s been in ballet since she was 6 and on the dance team at school. When she was young we were very strict with her diet. No sugary cereals for breakfast, no chips in the house, eat all your vegetables; you know, all that kind of stuff.

The funny thing is she didn’t miss not having all that crap. And later she was proud to be fit and slim.

As far as a good smacking now and then I think as a very young girl (less than 6) she got about 4 or 5 smackings.

Once when she was 4, we where hiking on a trail, she reached down and grabbed a coke can and started to drink from it. So pop, right on bottom.

Another time she ran into a parking lot between two cars.

For the most part I believe spankings should be rare, short and quick, reserved only when you need to get their undivided attention. I’ve seen the results of too much and to little corporal punishment in my life. Also it should done at a very early age and not with any real force.

There may be some people I've upset along lifes horrible path that may agree;)

Kids need discipline, and a good belting is a good way of delivering it.

We used to live in one room, all ten of us, no furniture, half the floor was missing, and we were all huddled together in one corner for fear of falling. We used to have to get up at six in the morning, eat a crust of stale bread, go to work down t' mill, fourteen hours a day, week-in week-out, for sixpence a week, and when we got home our Dad would thrash us to sleep wi' his belt.

By heck, we used to have such laughs then;)

Glad to see that your up bringing was normal. :D :D :D

I was glad when I grew too big to climb chimneys. ;) ;)

These days I think some parents need a good dose of discipline.
