Is it possible to have a pop reminder system and task management area within Access, something similar to outlook but completely autonomous. For example I have lodged a job and I want my system to remind me to check on it on a given date?

Sure. If the application is left running, you can use the timer event of a form to periodically check the data. You can also create an app that checks the data and then closes itself after you clear the reminder, and run it from Windows Scheduled Tasks on the desired schedule. Searching here on "reminder" will likely turn up some threads on the subject.
