I am using access 2003. When I am working on my current database I keep getting an error message appearing, 'Microsoft Office Access has encountered a problem and needs to close, we are sorry for the inconvenience.' You have the options buttons to send error report or dont send. This is really annoying as once it comes up for the first time it repeatedly comes up and I keep losing my work. It comes up when I click the save or form preview icons on the toolbar in design mode.

I dont have multiple pages open and i am regularly saving my work so i dont lose too many changes. Has anyone came across this problem before?

Perhaps suggesting the obvious, but it seems as though you have either a corrupted version of Access (a pain), or a corrupted version of Windows (bigger pain but not beyond the realm of possibility!).

I would suggest that you backup your databases, uninstall Access and reinstall your version of Access. Have another blast on your saved db's and see where you get to....

Are you on Windows XP? If so try going to the Administrative Tools in the control panel and clicking on the Event Viewer. This may give you some clues as to the error. I had a similar problem recently with ODBC linking which caused Access to crash.

reclusive, excellent suggestion. Event Viewer is a good resource. But the next step is to then visit the Windows Update site. They might recommend some updates for that version of Windows. The site can ALSO suggest and implement updates for MS Office!

When they do, they will list the individual updates (if you request it by clicking on the icon to expand the update list), letting you see if any of the reports correspond to the items noted in Event Viewer. You can selectively download and apply those patches. OR you can just bite the bullet and allow a general update to occur. That depends on your personal philosophy (or site rules) about updates.

I just got a brand new pc today, hp compaq with pentium 4, office 2003, windows xp. I work in a large company and my pc has the standard ghost which is given out, except for access which needs to be requested. It seems strange as my boss doesnt seem to be getting the same message when she uses the database.

Ensure that you are listed as an "Administrator" for your new XP computer.

I work for a local council in the UK. All the PCs here have Office on as standard. However, the standard office doesn't include Access, you have to have Office Proffessional. The reason for this is that most large organisations' IT departments don't want large numbers of databases to maintain/support. Good luck with getting it installed!

This may sound stupid and obvious but have you tried sending the error report? If it comes back with a dialog box with a more information link then there is a good chance there might be a fix available.
