Access Startup Security Warnings

I thought I had this figured out, but apparently am still missing something...

When I start my DB, I get the default 'Security Warning' message every time asking if I want to cancel or continue... I thought this was an options setting under the Tools/Macro/Security setting. However, when I change this setting (default is Medium) to Low, exit Access and restart the DB I get the same warning message and the security setting is back to medium.

Am I in the right area to fix this? Why would my settings default back?

Thanks

I am not sure which version of access you are using but it might be that you need to set up the location of your DB as a trusted location.

For a while I had DBs packaged that always gave this message. As I understand for packaging on 2007 you have to manually edit the registry as the run time environment doesn't allow you to do it.

If you have access 2007 it's under that goofy windows button -> Access Options -> Trust Center.

If you need more I know there are lots of threads here with better answers than I can provide.

We're using Access 2003.
I'll have to do a search to see if I can find anything on how to add this DB or location as a trusted source.....

Well, I'm really not too familiar with 2003 other than some basics. I'm pretty new to the community myself.

Thanks ASherbuck... :)
Welcome to the community.. I'm definatly new and this site has saved my a$$ more than I care to admit! LOL

its should be tool/macro/security/low

if you have downloaded a dbs however, it might be rightlcick the file in windows, and select unblock

Gemma;
when I change to 'low' on that menu and then reopen the DB Access goes back to "Medium" ..... Wierd.
I'll look into right clicking the db; but it wasn't something downloaded, it was built here locally.

if you built it, it wont be the unblock thing - i dont understand it, i must confess

I am using A2003 on Windows XP and I am having exactly the same resetting.

on the trusted publishers tab (of tools/macro/security), there is a check box - trust all installed addins - its checked in my system - is that the problem?

i would right click the dbs in windows (properties), and make sure its not set as blocked, but i doubt if thats the issue

Its checked in mine too. so that is not why it switches back to Medium every time

Gemma / Rabbie

I checked the trusted pub tab, my 'trust all... ' was not checked. I checked it, reset the security to low and restarted Access; both settings reverted... I am back to Medium and the 'trust all...' box is not checked... Tried reverse order (goin low then trust all) same results.

i would right click the dbs in windows
Not sure what you mean by this....

i have recieved dbs's form some people that wouldnt open normally. i had to right click the file name in windows, and select unblock on the properties tab to get the dbs to behave normally.

also had zip files that wouldnt unzip for same reason.

---------
another thought - might your stuff not be saving because of something to do with admin privileges in windows?

these things must be being saved in the registry

-----

just try running savesetting (saves stuff in the registry - totally harmless) with some parameters - see if you get a run time error

Gemma;
My computers here are sooooooo restrictive by IT personnel that I can't even change my system clock date/time! I wouldn't be surprised if I can't change settings in Access due to the same reasons.....

Is access hosted on a server, or network computer?

Is your computer set up to Sync with that computer ?

Goto your IT department and pull the IT guy away from quake for minute and beat the answer out of him =)

DB isn't hosted on a server, but on a workstation with that directory shared out to the users.
No Sync; don't think I can do that.. :)

IT guys are in for an earful tomorrow :P
