Hi,
I had a PC crash recently and I had to re-install my op' system XP, on a new disc partition. I installed all my files sucessfully, however, I cannot find the location of my database created in Access, in my prog files.
Can anyone help me find these or are they gone forever?
Pete

Have tried yusing the Windows search facilty? An Access database would usually be stored in "My Documents" or in another folder. not in a Progrqam folder.

Thanks Rabbie,
I think I tried this and could'nt seem to locate it. Do you know what the file extention would be. Peter

Taking into account that the OS is in a new partition I doubt if your old files exist. Its like saying I've moved house and I can't find the bathroom can you tell me where it might be. If you old house has been demolished (wiped) then finito binito - goodbye database. Now where did I store that backup copy???

O.K. Point taken. The old OS is still there on my main drive and I have been able to retrieve everything else from it.

No problem, the first pill is the hardest one to swallow.

If you still have access to your existing partition then I suggest you do a search on all *.mdb type files. Assuming you know the name of your database and the path where it last exisited. Thi sshould give you a clue to whether it is still recoverable or not.

If you find any other mdb's in the same folder with numeric suffixes these may be Access backups of your mdb. starting with the highest number try opening them up to see the contents.

Thanks David,
I'll give it a try and make sure I save to disk in future.
Peter

Thanks Rabbie,
Your a star! .accdb did the trick and I found my database. I have 2007 version. I'd been trying .mdb previously, without success.
