I've requested my company to book me for couple of advance courses on databases. I want to do an advanced design course because i consider myself weak in DB Design, plus advance SQL language course, or maybe T-SQL, because I'm more towards Access and SQL Server.

As professionals, will you guys be kind enough to refer me some useful courses in above domains??

I might not be able to get courses in my area, so I will probably be traveling to Dubai/UAE to get a course. Thank you.

in my opinion, I think it would be quite hard to design a course. If you can't get it from a book, then a basic course might be useful. How you actually construct a table, a query, a form etc

Beyond that, I think getting used to database design takes a lot of experience - just doing it - and at a few judicious moments - advice on how to achieve something. There are a lot of "light-bulb" moments. Things that are not apparent at all, but once demonstrated, never forgotten.

Similar to excel. You can achieve a lot self-taught. At certain points you need someone saying "did you realise you can do this ... ?" Access is the same. but the basic skill set you need is more advanced than excel.

The keys to writing good databases, among other things.

a talent for data analysis
an understanding of systems - a deep understanding of the intricacies of the system you are modelling. Users generally won't know enough to explain what they do correctly, and you need to be able to fill in some blanks.
excellent vba skills

Not only is Microsoft moving toward cloud based programing, but they are also moving towards web base frontends. PHP, ASP.NET, PYTHON and C++. In my opinion this is the future of mobile and multiple user SQL databases.

Personally I don't get as much from classroom training as I do from online courses. The pace is normally that of the most inexperienced person.

I have learned a lot form this site: http://www.learnnowonline.com/ and it is very affordable.

I do not have a current MSDN subscription , but in the past some levels of the MSDN subscription included some courses from https://preview.pluralsight.com/

I like online courses because it allows me to watch the video, pause it, and try it.

Thank you, Gemma. Your advice is valuable. I do learn from the books but learning from books seem to take a lot more time than video’s, OR, is it just my assumption?
So far I’ve gone through couple of Access books, an intermediate level database design book with a nice set of initial knowledge I gained from there and a beginner intermediate level VBA book. It has all got me started and I can do small to medium level projects now, in addition to all the help I get from this forum specially. Now I want to improve in SQL and Design and I’ve lot of work coming in my company in Database and I might need to move to SQL Server backend, so I was looking for a fast track, rather than lagging behind.

Thank you HiTech. http://www.learnnowonline.com/ looks like a nice site for learning with valuable amount of stuff I need for learning. https://preview.pluralsight.com/ also looks promising, but does it really an instructor led??

I could see course there SQL, but content is mixed, and I think is the case with many sites. I mean it’s a better learning strategy if it shows videos step by step, from Beginner to Advanced, so that you would have an idea about the stuff that you need for the next video or course. Does it happen automatically once I subscribe to some learning site??

Has anyone got views about www.cbtnuggets.com videos?

Thanks
