I think that most of the polictians will court the god squad - irresprective of there views

Here in the UK being catholic can go against you in polictics
and we are a little bit concern when relgion is raise on a policitical basis - partly due to our history with religion and partly due to our make up of religions in the UK while a large percentage are "Chrisitan" there are a lot of Buddist, Muslim.Seeks etc and some of the voting areas are predonimately 1 enthic/relgious set

i.e Parts of Birmingham have a large 85-90% make up of Indian/Pakistain population (makes it exciting come the cricket) London/Manchester/Dudley are all the same So its easier to leave religion out of polictics
State side this works against your candiates and they all seems to be courting the Bible bashers.- now of them have got up and said "REligion is rubbish its all made up" etc

no they are all being very careful , and rightly so

Piss of one of the vicars/priest or whatever you call this leaders then they will rant and rave against you

here in Europe (UK anyway) the vicars,bishops etc are encouraged not to be too policital, this does not stop them taking a view on a given issue, but they are requested not to pick a party to support or attack.

Politians also do not attack relgions - islam, seekism (not sure what its called) or the other half dozen relgions that are widely practiced

we in the UK don't have a set limit on how long a PM can stay , and they can also get kick out and a couple of years later come back
it happedn with
Winston Churchill, and going back (wayyyyyyyyyy back ) to the Duke of Wellington when he was PM , made to resign and then a couple fo years later he was asked to form a goverment (please note he was asked) - he declined this , but he could of been PM again

not sure how many times that this has happened -
We don't vote the leader in - Margrate THatcher ousted out the old PM - forget his name - however this was all done by the party with the most votes , they can change there leader

the goverment can be over throw by a vote of no confidence - this would mean that parliment would have a vote (on anything) and if the goverment lost then a general election would follow - sounds daft , but this is how it works

now occasionaly and the gulf war was one of these occasion, a vote of confidence was raise and all of the goverment MP's have to follow the Goverments lead , those who don't get a real hard time - they don't get offered places int e Goverement - where they made a voice for good - or they are experts in a choosen area - but they will be moved out of it or not get the position - the usual policitcs
very few polictians will stand up and be counted when this happens

a good one was Mo Molen (typo) and she was a Labour MP (I don't vote labour) - but had she been my MP , i would of no nonsense, ask her a question and you got a straight answer, brilliant women - however she became too popular and out can the daggers , she wcould talk the talk and walk the walk , brilliant MP, sadly no longer with us.

which is why I said she had to stand by her husband - irresepctive of what he did , as the god squad would rip her apart if she left him, as you right state she is going to have a devil of job getting the god squad to support her, but she may , turn this around and go - that they are prejudice and force them into supporting her, just to show that they aren't - we will have to wait and see
as to a black nomination, that would be great to see, but agin I think your right Colin - I don't think that the power players would allow this, maybe in 20 or so years . but not this time round(again I hope i am wrong and it is done on the strenght of the nomination rather than there sex/colour)
