People are now frightened to post anything that prompts discussion because certain people here will delete it or even ban them for no reason other than stating an opinion.

And I thought dictatorship was dying, over the last few years on these forums it is more popular than ever as long as the "chosen few" can rule.

If you can read this before it gets deleted and I get banned again then you'll be doing well.

I have no idea - I am not part of the elite, I am merely a target not an arrow.

You have to admit though that compared to 10 or so years ago the current regime have successfully killed off these forums.

Be honest Vass, what is better, the current forums where nobody posts (except for benign boring things) or the interactive (friendly) banter of years ago.

I only log in about once a week now, even then it's usually as a guest.

If it wasn't for the political and religious arguing, the excessive trolling, and abusive behavior of some members, we would probably still have the friendly banter. It seems to have chased a lot of members away. I can't say I blame them.

I agree that there were some members who were using foul language etc. I personally dislike that, there is no need for it.

But if everyone is happy with a sterile non-interactive forum then that's fine. That's what the mods want, that's what they have.

I still don't see how the mods have caused it. I can't remember the last time I've deleted a post or banned anyone. Actually, I don't really remember ever banning anyone and the only posts I've deleted were the excessive profane or abusive. I even let you slide on replacing male names with female since no one complained.

Again, I don't think it was the mods that caused it, it was more likely the repetitive negativity toward each other's home countries, religions, cultures, or ideals over the same tired opinions. It's why I left for a long time myself.

It could be like the US taking out Saddam - it just made matters worse for all of us.

Dave, who is to say that the sudden surge of Middle East unrest wasn't started by taking down Saddam, and that it just took a while to gain momentum? I'm not going to guess at that one.

As to Osama's death, I am sad in a way. Oh, he was a scuz-bucket and deserved what he got, but then again, a lot of people get more or less than they really deserved. I'm saddened because it took that kind of action to put an end to his schemes and hatred. Sad for him that he became so terribly hated as to engender such a reaction. Sad for the USA that we had to stoop to his level to put an end to his role in terror attacks. Sad that people found the need to rejoice at the death of another person.

I'm not stupid enough to believe that no good can come of it. There is probably enough captured intelligence on the computers in the compound that analysts will be busy for months and months sifting through it all. We'll catch more scuz-buckets. We'll put an end to some plans by knowing ahead of time where they were going to attack next. The operation was a good thing. I'm just not one to rejoice at the death of another person.

On the other hand, seeing the Pakistani Army shown up as a dundering bunch of chowderheads who couldn't find Osama hiding nearly in plain sight? THAT is worth a laugh at their expense.

I thought everyone was looking for him, with the US being one of the leaders in that. I thought they were looking in particular in Pakistan too.

I was obviuosly mistaken - and the failure is all Pakistans and the success all the US's.

I remember in 2008, it's OK for one member to say another has "mental issues" after making an innocent comment about the death of John Lennon, yet when asked to qualify their expertise in making such a diagnosis, they ignore the question and the questioner ends up with a lifetime ban. How fair is that? Even if it was a joke it would have been ok.

Oh yes of course, the person who said it is American - or at least lives in the US, he could be a pseudo fake Yank, born in another country - I still have his address though (wonderful thing the internet if you know where to look). So obviously the Yank is going to get away scot-free.
Oddly, he even went to the police to complain - I bet they laughed him out of the cop-shop.

Pakistan is the current embodiment of all that is wrong with that region.

They accept aid from the US and turn around and render comfort to our enemies.

They form alliances based on whichever way the wind is blowing.

They need to take a stand, or soon they will see adversity from both the West and the Islamic Extremist.

They walk a fine line, and they have nuclear capabilities.

How long will they be allowed to exist?

Moving back onto topic...
I was reading that several Lawyers and stuff were saying that the US did a horrible job by dumping his body in the ocean. There was an argument made in a local paper quoting some lawyer in the middle east in which he basically said that he should have been burried in his native land according to Muslim laws.

Wasn't he banned from his home and disowned by much of his family????

Also, maybe it's just me, but I heard that the US is NOT releasing any pictures, that they did a traditional muslim prayer before the "burried" Osama and that he was suppose to be burried within 24 hours according to their religion.. I was surprised they took that much care considering what he did to the US....
I was kinda surprised.

Also, Cheering over the death of someone does seem kind of unusual, but then again, this was an unusual situation.

And then when they realize you can doctor that.. they will want to see the body paraded down the main street of every major city.. That's what puzzled me a bit. Okay, when people lynched Mussolini, tehnnology was such that anyoen seeing pics/film of it could be pretty sure it was the man himself. Nowadays?

If I have no reason to assume the goverment was lying when they said it was him, I have no reason to ask for photos.

If I was the type to believe conspiracy theories, etc. I certainly wouldn't be placated by some photos.

Seems a little pointless.
