Dear All,

I'm a fairly new user to Access 2000 but have been putting together a fairly complicated property database for some sister departments.

It's got about 110 MB of information within it now but suddenly seems to hang whenever I try to use the Tools/Compact and Repair database option...

Any idea of what might be wrong its just started doing this?

Cheers

Try importing all tables, queries, forms etc. into a new blank db, then run the compact/repair.

HTH

PS. I think you'd have been better to post this in the General section ;)

Do you know how the problem arose so that I can try and avoid it next time?

It may have just corrupted. Sometimes, most times, impossible to tell what has caused it.

Apologies for this... just joined this group today and wasn't sure what forum to post this in. Just figured out that you can use the search facilities to find out items such as this .. doh...

To complete the thread .... Turns out that there's nothing wrong with my database.

When compacting a database remotely on a network the administrator needs certain read/write permissions to alter the server directory required by the compact repair procedure. So if you're not entirely sure whether you have the required permissions best to copy the database to your local machine and then repair from there.

In this case access was creating partial phantom databases db1,db2 etc in the directory before it crashed...

Cheers

I'll move this to the correct forum.

Welcome to Access World Forums. :)
