Compliance gone mad

The puncutation and grammar in your post are abysmal.

That'll be the American influence then. Oh Christ, don't say I'm being corrupted:eek:

I was referring to textspeak actually, not necessarily the shite that is written in these crappy forums

Col

So when you have a telephone keypad to type with you ensure you use correct grammar etc. but when you have a full keyboard to type with you don't bother with correct grammar etc.

The whole point of text speak was because it was a pain in the arse to try and type full words using a telephone keypad, especially before predictive text came along.

That's logic even an American would be ashamed off.

One has to write on the level of our American readers.

really??? why not say something obvious:rolleyes: laziness is not an answer.

Logic and America don't fit in the same phrase.

ps - doesn't the word "of" only have one "f"?

Well the other reason for text speak was the character limit that applied to SMS messages in the past, not sure if they still apply. If you abbreviated your words you could fit more in.

In this case it should only have one "f" so another mistake for me. Just glad I didn't make any silly claims like "I always use correct grammar".

Yes, it's odd that Chergh should suddenly launch an unprovoked attack on another, perhaps Chergh is on Eastern Pacific time and can't sleep.

So in what case would the word "of" have two "f"'s?

Just glad I didn't make any silly claims like "I always use correct grammar".
Heaven forbid you'd do that - I can see failure would be a catastrophe for you - in fact, I doubt you'd get over it.

Will you be correcting other posters? or is this a personal attack on me?
First off (that's 2 "f"s), I thought you were having a joke, now I see you're serious I'll have to get more serious myself.

Col

It does seem a bit... unwarranted ,although there may have been some correct obersvations in the puncutation. you post was fluid and readable, which is more than can be said for 90% of mine.

as to txting - well you cna see from my posts that my english is at best sloppy, so it i took this to txting no-one would have a blinking idea what the hell I was on about.

g

No, I just take exception to your Daily Mail style of sensationalism regarding textspeak and how it heralds the imminent demise of the English language as we know it, especially when your own grammar is distinctly average yet you make great claims about "I always use correct grammar".

Plus it's the internet so everyone is allowed to troll sometimes:D

you didn't answer my question

I'll remind you of it in case you have a short term memory problem.

So in what case would the word "of" have two "f"'s?

Col

Fair -do's
however to Colin's Defence (not that he needs it)
my level of grammar would probably be average and with this in mind Colins (and yours) far exceed the average

Off is typically used in in relation to position e.g. I live in a flat just off the High Street, or when something becomes detached e.g. the lid came off. Theres also a lot of other situations which for anyone really interested is best looked up in a dictionary.

I'm not that serious, I was intending to be mainly jokey but I have Aspergers syndrome so I do get a bit obssessed about small things and am not great at telling how things will be taken by other people. My comments weren't meant to be a personal attack on you and were purely spurred by your some what sensationalist comments, which along with your claim irked me somewhat and I got a bit intense about the subject.

I really didn't mean to turn it into a personal attack.

No people should try to look at things objectivley.

so it's actually a different word then?
How odd that you hint that the word "of" can have 2 "f"s when in actual fact you are referring to a totally different word. Smacks of Daily Mail sensationalism to me.

Here's a lesson for you sunshine - read my original quote which said
I always use correct grammar in texts
now read how you have cut it and taken it out of context to suit your petty, picky comments.
Just glad I didn't make any silly claims like "I always use correct grammar".

Now spot the difference between the two. It's like saying "I always use toothpaste on my teeth" and you cutting it to suit you and saying "I always use toothpase" then ridiculing me for using toothpaste to polish the car. . . . . . get it?

Now answer this - is this forum a mobile phone and we're all texting? or is it totally different.

Don't take my comments out of context.

Your were still making a big deal about kids not using correct grammar and how it is going to lead to the demise of the english language yet you don't even bother to always use correct grammar yourself.

Surely if you are worried about the future of the english langauge you should be championing the cause and setting an example by always using correct grammar.

This forum is a form of texting as we are all communicating via text except that instead of it being only available limited audience the whole world and their dogs' are the audience. Surely it's more important to be grammatically correct here than in a text message that is only going to be seen be 1 or 2 people?

Chergh said:
If you want to be a grammar nazi

another thing - I object to being called a Nazi in any form, name calling is an American trait, I expect better from a UK poster (I'm guessing here as you are obviously not brave enough to indicate your location)

Like using a capital "E" for the word "English"?

This forum is a form of texting as we are all communicating via text except that instead of it being only available limited audience the whole world and their dogs' are the audience.
Shouldn't that read

"except that instead of it being only available to a limited audience"?

Also, isn't taking peoples' comments out of context not only rude, but incorrect?

Don't critisise me until you can be sure you're on the right track - at the moment you're not even parallel track. You take a comment, cut it to suit your so called syndrome then spend an hour having a go at me.

Get out more son, you may learn something:rolleyes:

Surely it's more important to try all the time to be correct and not just lazy, which is something you appear to be endorsing, or is it new technology that's responsible in your view?
