Congratulations to the USA

Oh, I'm sorry. I should have realized you wouldn't possible be referring to people when you said this:

It's difficult to understand your pigeon English, but I'm guessing you meant "oh, I'm sorry, I should have realised you couldn't possibly be referring to people when you said this:"

I've corrected your spelling errors and incorrect use of grammar, I trust this will help you.

I mean, you don't seem to much care about yourself, much less anyone else. My mistake.

You are correct, I care very little about anyone except me. But, seeing the billions the USA wastes on this Mars farce, I can't help thinking that it could go to better use. Obviously, you disagree so let them all die, then they'll not clog up our screens with their pathetic pictures.

Go America - doing things like the Mars Curiosity fights insipid cynisicm

No matter what never give in to negativity.

hahaha - I remember that NASA was visiting for a long time near Sudbury because the stripped landscape was similar to the barren terrain of the moon... also quite close in colour as everything back then was grey. Probably could have just taken footage from their evaluations and tests and broadcast it as being on the moon... but they would have had to hide the Big Nickel...

What are you guys talking about? Don't you know these are all just hoaxes?

The "moon" landing was filmed on a Super 8 camera in my uncle's basement. For the "mars" rover they obviously needed more open space, so I'm guessing Australia. Admit it JBB, you're looking out your window right now watching that rover driving around taking pictures.

I suppose you guys also subscribe to the theory that Earth is a "sphere" instead of flat.

Ridiculous. :D

...then they'll not clog up our screens with their pathetic pictures.

I am quite sick of the late night infomercials that try to guilt you into donating. Rather than showing me your fascilities and what you will actually be doing with the money, you show me photos of sick and starving animals or people. I'm sorry. That doesn't convince me to break out my credit card.

Whoever thought up the bright idea to use guilt as a motivator for donations was obviously pretty smart. People today are so full of guilt.

As great as the Mars landing was, glad it was at the tail end of the Olympics. What a great event! Way to go London and all those who supported the event.

Was equally impressed with both events.

Total waste of money - billions of dollars down the drain for what reason?

Who gives a stuff if there was a microbacteria jobbie on mars?

Surely there is enough problems here on earth to spend the money on if you have so much you want to spend it.

How about exploring the ocean depths? or working out how to get fresh water to the millions dying every day?

Col

If we listened to this kind of argument we would still be rubbing two rocks together.

We have no idea what we'll find there, that's the point of exploration. Say they find a new material for electronics that increases performance?

Money also cannot be "wasted". It circulates. All those manufacturers for NASA, paid employees, who then participate in the economy. It doesn't just vanish.

I can think of many other areas of our budget we can pull money from first.

hear, hear. well said.

it truly is the type of argument one would expect to hear from either a troll, or an uneducated person who doesn't understand why science, technology, and exploration for the sake of furthering our understanding in all those fields are so vastly important to us as a species.

what if our ancestors had never decided to explore outside of wherever they were born? for one thing, none of us would be here, because our parents never would have met, never having existed themselves in the first place.

i don't mean to sound like i'm saying the poster was 'uneducated' or even a troll. i just wanted to get my point across that those are the two main types of people one would usually hear such a cut-and-dry one-sided argument from.

think outside the box, people. ;)

The poster is neither a troll nor uneducated but he is a wooden spoon.

Poor Col, What a pitiful non-existence.

I have moved back to Space City, or near it anyway, and the people here are genuinely excited to be alive and part of some of the greatest achievements in human history.
The Space Program supplies much needed example of the possibilities of human ingenuity.
Col, Go see a doctor, take meds, for all that is good, try before it is too late to join the living.

Here's a question

Nominal in NASA speak is "meeting the expected value within the errors"

But what do they say when things are outside the parameters?

Without going into details, but Brian will know what I am talking about. Sometimes it is not possible to lead your own life as you would wish. The non-existence as you call it is dictated by the needs of others whom you actually put before oneself.

Life can be very cruel, although if one tries ones best then perhaps it has not all been in vain.

so cute. this guy acts all high-and-mighty regarding his corrections of others' spelling and grammar, and then he drops this little nugget on us.

"Without going into details, but Brian will know what I am talking about."
~ this is not at all a complete or well-formed sentence.

"The non-existence as you call it is dictated by the needs of others whom you actually put before oneself."
~ this one is missing commas, and mixing pronouns together in a sub-standard way. '..you actually put before oneself...' - this is improper use in a big way.

in conclusion, my congratulations to Davep/Col (whatever thair name actually is) on demonstrating the principle of "do as i say, not as i do."

well done, sir. well done. ;)

EDIT: oh yeah! i almost missed one... "if one tries one's best" <-- FTFY.

My name is Col. I used to be colinessex but was banned and my name was deleted. I have five other usernames and different IP addresses to avoid a repeat of being totally banned.

Thank you for your comments on my post, I don't agree, but if you think you are correct then fair enough. Odd though that as you are American, so correct English is not your first language, I admire your spirit, being as Americans changed certain words as they were too difficult to understand - like pavement to sidewalk- presumably to remind you to walk on the side as pavement is too difficult. Horseback riding is another, this to remind you what part of the horse to ride?

Anyway, must go, better things to do than be bored here.

i don't even know where to start...

"Odd though that as you are America, so correct English is not your first language..."
~ seriously? you're going to point out that I don't speak correct English, when you yourself botch up the sentence in which you accuse me of that?

so, you're fully admitting here that you have multiple IPs and multiple usernames on this forum, specifically to avoid being perma-banned? *looks around* are the mods watching?

you're free to say whatever you want about "American English," but let me point out a few things:

1. i personally have absolutely nothing to do with forming our language, so making fun of me for words or phrases used in my country is absolutely pointless.

2. i was raised by a lifelong educator, and was therefore taught from an incredibly young age to always use correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation. you, obviously, were not. what does that say about you, when you're attempting to discredit others based on their spelling/grammar/punctuation, yet you obviously are incapable of utilizing those very concepts correctly? (i'll tell you. it says that you're a snobby, yet inept, troll.)

...

and as for the pavement/sidewalk comment.. i had a good little :banghead: at that one..

pavement, used as a term for sidewalk, is really only used in British English. so, just because your country uses it that way, everybody else is stupid because they don't? tsk tsk. there's that "holier than thou" attitude again.. here, and plenty of other places, "pavement" is the stuff our roads are made of. it's ridiculous that i'm even bothering to respond to you about all of this anymore, but i just find it unfathomable that you so adamantly believe that you have such a higher aptitude in language than anybody else here, when clearly you have no idea what you're talking about.

EDIT: my apologies to the OP for going so off-topic. i'll bow out now, as i'm not sure i can contain myself anymore if this silly person continues to act like "God's Gift to the English-speaking Population"

Obviously the village troll is off his medications again, try not to take the posts too seriously. The moderators know all about what is reality and what is perceived as reality by our favourite little narcissist.

It's fantastic watching a robot blast rocks with a laser. But what happened to Obama's promise that they were going back to the moon? Did NASA put him off, can't have been the cost if they're shooting glorified vacuum cleaners at Mars, so why the backtrack?

But did they ever go there in the first place? There are plenty of conspiracy theorists who think not

Ersocia - my apologies for not replying and helping you sooner but I was banned for a month by someone anonymous on two counts. One, something about multi-usernames, odd really, vassago has known this for at least two years so that cant be the reason, and secondly I was banned for having a pompous attitude.
Now, I shall be contacting Jon about this because to ban someone because they are of upper middle class seems to be positive discrimination directed to another member based on class. If positive discrimination to another member is ok for an anonymous mod, too frightened to leave their name, then it's ok for the rest of us.

Obviously I still logged in during the months ban, but played along by not posting in the watercooler, but did answer a few queries to pass the time. I gave up after a week or so because Larson needs to answer them to keep his numbers up. That's why so few people answer questions these days. It's generally known that Larson is on a retainer to answer a target number per month, hence, no-one else gets a look in. Still, I was able to help a few and clarify some of larson's ambiguous answers, they're not all perfect if you read them.

Anyway, what I was going to say to try to help you was, if you write your replies in ms word first, it will correct the basic grammatical errors for you. Obviously it's written by an American so it has it's faults but it will start each sentence with a capital letter for you - something you failed to grasp at your very early age you claim to have been taught

I hope this helps you to present your posts at least basically correct, we can go on to the harder stuff when you have grasped the basics.

Who is of upper middle class? Col Essex, having a smoke and a coffee outside the Colchester McDonalds.

How the other half live! ;-)
