Hi -

Just ran into the A2007 ACCDB database format for the first time (I'm using 2003 & 97). After an extensive search, have yet to find a solution to convert the new format to a previous MDB version (without using A2007). Any wisdom on this or is it a lost cause?

Best Wishes - Bob

Unfortunately Bob you will have to have someone with Access 2007 save it to a format you can read.

Thanks Bob L. -

That's what I was afraid of. From all the propaganda I've read, I'm extremely reluctant to incorporate any Office 2007 applications. Hmm, this could be a problem!

Thanks again - Bob A.

XP, A2003, A97

Sorry you've heard bad stuff as I've been running the thing since it came out and I haven't had problems with it.

Well, having heard it from you, I'm going to give it a shot. Perhaps I've confused Office 2007 with Vista, which I don't believe has gotten any good publicity.

Thanks for your input.

Bob A.

I've been running Office 2007 since the beta came out in June of 2006. There are things I like about it and things I don't but I don't find it to be any more unstable than earlier versions of office. Just be aware of the massive UI change and the steep learning curve it causes for experienced developers. Vista is another issue. The only thing I can say about it is the spinning mouse pointer as some program is getting ready to crash looks just like a target.

Have they worked out the incompatibility issues with moving to 2007? When I last looked, I was told that there was potential to break several of scripts written in Word, Outlook or Excel, and the difference in version can be painful, especially when there's a collections of documents/spreadsheets.

Is this no longer the case?

I have only Office 2007 installed along with A2003. So except for Access, all other applications are only O2007. I don't have any production databases running in A2007 since none of my clients has made the jump yet. I do most of my development in A2003 but I test in A2007 to be sure there will not be a problem and if there is something I know is easier to do in A2007, I switch. One thing I have noticed is that occassionally, opening a corrupt A2003 form in A2007 fixes the corruption. The big annoyance with using the two versions is the time delay when swapping between them. I don't have the nerve to have both open at one time.

WARNING - if you are using Vista, set up two desktop shortcuts to start Access. One for each version. Set the shortcuts to run with admin permission. Before I discovered this, I had three weeks of hell where I thought I was loosing my mind. You have no idea how bizarre the behaviour of A2003 is when it is running with the A2007 library!!! This is what happens with Vista since unless the program is running as administrator, whichever version has control of the registry keeps it. And in my case I had installed A2007 first so it was in charge and there was no dislodging it.
