Coronavirus - are we all doomed? (2 Viewers)

In these apocalypse movies, there is always lawlessness. Maybe that is why they are buying guns. They anticipate the worse and a big rise in crime.
You touch upon a point there, Jon. Growing up in the deep south (Georgia), there was always a mistrust of all forms of government. Even though there was no reason to feel the need to take up arms, the possibility of it exists and it was customary to be prepared. I realize it makes no sense and seems extreme to most of the world, but to a young boy growing up this was just the way it is.

I do own a 16 gauge shotgun but it is primarily for varmint control and home defense. I do not trust myself with a pistol due to my temper...gotta know yourself and be true.

Now to your point; everyone knows in rural America that if the fecal matter comes in contact with the oscillator, hoarding, foraging and looting becomes reality. Being able to keep what you have from those who want to take it from you in priority one.

In the UK, part of the governments thinking is that police may only deal with serious crime if there is a mass outbreak of the corona.

I've got a couple of predictions for this year:

1. A domino effect with the collapse of business. Restaurant goes bust > Supplier goes bust > workers laid off > mass unemployment > deep recession.

2. A multi-peaked wave of infection cases. Cases rise, you get the lockdown, cases then slowly fall to low levels. Then people feel less scared, so they go out again. Cases rise, it peaks again. New lock down. And so on.

Happy days.

the man of lawlessness from the scriptures is also supposed to be able to perform miracles. now whether that is going to come in the form of KNOWING what ignorant people will do because of AI's progression is unknown. My own thought is that he will simply do miraculous things like Christ did, in the same manner Christ did. But they will be performed from brain power rather than from a sincere and faithful heart.

<-- Willing to trade S&W 9mm for 2 rolls of Toilet Paper.
LOL... classic. have you tried the "seashell" method of wiping from the movie ""Demolition Man"" with Stallone? =)

I always thought of the red & white corncob method. You use a red corncob to scrape your way clean. Then you use the white one to see if you need another red one.

As to buying guns, I saw an article that clearly stated the people were getting guns to protect their businesses from looting. They were interviewed so their motive for the purchase wasn't a guess.

that makes perfect sense richard.

I would have thought something more beneficial would be favourite, like food etc.
How do you hold on to your food? The local bobbies going to show up at your flat and say "please give Col back his biscuits"
He's a jolly good chap.

As the knuckle-dragger makes off with your stash.

We have three cases in our county in California (they are not talking much about them). The store shelves are getting emptied out. Idiots are in the parking lots selling items at an inflated cost (and sometimes getting arrested). Fortunately other needing a loaf of bread and some cheese we have all the other items we need.

Well, it seems odd to me that the first thing Americans think is 'I must buy a gun because I intend to shoot someone who steps on my property'

Thanks Tony, assuming all that is accurate, that is some good news...

I just got an email that someone in my office is in quarantine for 2 weeks. Of course they wont say who, as it is a hippa issue. They have not been able to get a covid test. Ugh.
Glad I have Netflix, Hulu, Prime, and Disney+.

Yep. I'm somewhat of a collector, so I have a couple of hundred movies available, a new disk player and a new OLED 4K TV. So somewhere in there is a way to keep from being totally bored out of my gourd.

someone at the federal building, one of my coworkers, said she was getting a runny nose yesterday. apparently that is a symptom? I thought it was only coughing and shortness of breath?

Is anyone spraying their food shopping with bleach when they get back home?

You "opened the door". You had to know this was would eventually come. Have you been sanitizing your ehternet packets?

My wife has, for a long time, used disinfectant wipes on the outer packaging of anything boxed or stored in larger plastic bottles. She was somewhat of a germaphobe before we married. We also used a vegetable spray that is good for cleaning the surface of veggies (and some fruits) before you use them. It is a mild soap that rinses clean. So I'm already there on cleaning up after food shopping. Have been for years.

I've started spray the packaging. I see it like this. If you catch the deadly corona, you can die. The supply chain, customers, staff, they all touch the packaging. Or even if they don't touch it, someone in the store coughs, sneezes or even just breaths. Virus particles go in the air in water droplets and fall all over the food! You touch the shopping trolly, which is smothered in bugs and potentially the corona, then pick up the food, thus contaminating the packaging. The virus can stay alive for 3 days on plastic surfaces, maybe longer. So, there is a reasonable chance of bringing that virus into your home. I am also quarantining post. Why open it straight away? Leave it for a few days to let any potential contamination evaporate. Next, the newspaper! Spray it!

Last night, I was watching on YouTube preppers with their underground bunkers. :D

Problem here is that the government or the landlord will not be very happy if I start digging an underground bunker under the parking lot of our apartments...
