Can you please suggest a Database Diabraming toool other than Visio that can reverse engineer an Access Database and create the UML class Diagrams?

The organization I work for only has the standard version and will not buy a licence for the professional version. Thanks for the reply.

You can download Oracle JDeveloper which can reverse engineer any database and create a UML diagram. Oracle's products are usually license free until you produce a product with them (but check with your Oracle rep).

Can JDeveloper be used to just produce a ERD diagram without incurring a royalty (nothing produced from it, mind you)

Like I said, check with your friendly Oracle salesman. Not speaking for the company, but Oracle seems pretty un-up-tight about people using their software without paying for it, though I assume they would get pretty uptight if you started selling the results of using their product without paying for licensing.

Their strategy has worked as I've spent (tens of) millions on Oracle over the years.

Also, if all you want is an ERD, or more accurately a server model, you can use either Access or reverse engineer it into Erwin, Rational Rose, Oracle Designer, etc. I would only use JDeveloper if you absolutely must have a UML diagram.

I think the problem is cost George. All of those products are pretty expensive and if his company won't spring for an upgrade to VISIO pro, they are unlikely to spend thousands for a seat license for one of the other tools.

If your company has SQL Server, you can upsize to SQL Server and use their diagraming tool. SQL 2000 was far better than SQL 2005 but it may work for you.

I've been using a free online Tool: http://www.gliffy.com/ I'm afraid it doesn't do what you want, but it produces some nice diagrams. Thought I should mention it as it is sort of relevant.
