Does anyone else think the name in the middle looks familiar...

I agree, though I don't think it's him.

Him being around makes no problem. Once he start posting, you can judge.

Kinda inside joke.

Col's friend if memory serves me.

Bob Larson was / is one of the greats in MS Access development and I've used a lot of his genius tools, gratefully.
What was it that happened with him and UA, anyway? I've been wondering for years. I was around long enough to remember when he was posting great stuff, so what was the deal

As I recall, Bob's job changed and no longer involved Access. His materials are available here.

I figured a lot more than that had happened, based on his 'title' now reflected on old UA posts. Anyway - ok, thanks.

From Bob
I just wanted to say goodbye to everyone here and some may miss this because it is in the Watercooler but I think it is best here. I am now on a different journey. I am deeply involved in SQL Reporting Services (SSRS) at work and am not likely going to be doing any Access development work anymore.

Due to that, and a few other things, I am giving up my Moderator position here and will not likely be back much, if ever. It has been a great run over these past 13 years and I wish you all at AWF the best.

Thanks Jon for putting together a great Access support site.

I have been reluctant to admit that I should move on but have come to realize that is what is occurring naturally anyway. I don't have time, nor the desire anymore, to moderate here nor really answer any questions. So thanks and so long everyone - thanks for the fish.

P.S. I've set this as a STICKIE on the Watercooler just for a while so it can be visible for a bit so friends might spot it easier but the mods can change that at anytime they wish.

For now, I am keeping my access website up, with the help of Access MVP Juan Soto, so that the links all work from previous posts (except the really old ones when I was using DotNetNuke). If it goes down sometime next year, you can expect to find the information on some site somewhere and I'll probably come back and post where so that you can find it.

Yep, MVP from mid 2008 to mid 2009, a 1 year tenure. But I didn't do anything to maintain it because work came first. So the title lapsed in 2009.

There's a funny story that goes with it, sort of. There I am on my Navy computer and I get a message from a Microsoft rep asking about what prizes I want to claim for my MVP status. To which I am totally bewildered. So I reply and ask, basically, "Say what?" I finally check my Navy e-mail's Spam folder and sure enough, there is a notice from Microsoft.COM notifying me of the honor. But the Navy, because it was an unsolicited message from an obscure division of Microsoft, called it Spam and never told me I had anything to consider.

I got a little mileage out of it, at least. Navy contractors are always looking to prove to the Navy that they have really good, talented people on staff. So my immediate boss notified my company president, who gave me a really nice spot cash bonus. But my company was in the junior position of a "teaming agreement" with another company and THEY notified the Navy. So... the site's commanding officer told me to come to the next "all hands" meeting and bring the award, which is a pretty and quite glossy certificate with the name Microsoft in big letters. He "presented" it to me in a photo-op. At least the Navy got the message because I got another consideration (free time off) from the team leader.

In retrospect, it could have been worse. The captain might have invited someone from a Navy news journal to that photo-op, which would have made me notorious among all Navy Enterprise Data Centers. But the database guys at least begrudgingly acknowledged that I might actually know something about databases. Bunch of snooty ORACLE types, mostly. But they had to come to me when one of the personnel systems had trouble. It had an SQL server BE but an Access FE. I don't remember specifically what was wrong but I recall that I found it and told them how to fix it within 24 hours.

So will this forum have have a "Hall of Fame" and retire Bob's Icon?
