Mick Mulvaney, the former Director of the Office of Management and Budget under Trump, made a couple of points today furthering the theme of this thread. Maybe he read my post?
I doubt it. Anyway he stated (paraphrased):
- Democrats are superbly superior at messaging when compared to Republicans. Which makes it "easy" for them to "sell" their proposals to the (gullible) public
- Democrats have a vision of how they wish to "transform" the US. They will knowingly take short-term "defeats" in political control of the US knowing that the next time they are in political power, they can simply continue.
Mulvaney used the passage of the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) as his example of this process. He contended that the Democrats knew that passing this legislation would result in them subsequently losing control of the political process and they did it anyway. Unstated by Mulvaney, once the Republicans assumed control of the political process, they choked (as usual) and failed to fully repeal the Affordable Care Act. The Biden administration is now back-on-the-road to further embellish this (oppressive) legislation in support of the Democratic vision/transformation of the US.
Mulvaney, in the short-time, that he had to speak did not get into a variety of other issues that the Democrats are currently implementing to transform the US, and which the Republican will probably
never repeal, should Republicans assume control of the political process in the future. This will leave Democrats, in the future, with a baseline from which to continue their (degrading) transformation (assault on US values) of the US.
- Illegal immigration: Should the Republicans assume political control, they may well minimize illegal immigration, but they never will deport those here illegally, Consequently, the Democrats will have new massive group of people who they expect to vote for them. That may help the Democrats in the future to achieve political control of the US once again. Maybe even permanently.
- Voting: Democrats have opened the door for very "liberal" interpretations of who, the time, and place of voting. They also seem to have achieved hysterical fanaticism that any attempts by Republicans to assure election integrity somehow constitute "voter suppression". Current targets of Democratic Party vitriol are Georgia, Arizona, and Texas. Republicans, have only made half-hearted uninspired attempts to push-back at the Democrats. Unfortunately, this means that the Democrats will have achieved improperly tilting future elections in their favor.
- Economy: Democrats have been pushing for raising the minimum wage as one economic proposal. Democrats are in the process of accomplishing raising the minim wage through a bait-and-switch strategy. The Democrats are flooding the economy with money through stimulus check and extended unemployment benefits. When these supposedly "temporary" programs end, the gullible drug-addicted public will demand "where is my money? I can't live without it." The long-game, Democrats will get both an increase in the minimum wage and the "universal basic income". The useless Republican response. "We couldn't stop it."
You made some good points.
When it comes to messaging, I think it depends on the case. Fortunately for Republicans, every once in a while, Democrats just "hand" them something. From what I have seen, I believe it's because Democrats often overplay their hand. After last summer, they had a pretty good thing going with the "everything is racist" mantra. But they pushed it too far, to the point of ridiculousness. People are now revolting.
Their "defund the police" was obviously flawed from the start, but my point is, it had wings for a while. But they took it too far - as if police are bad, CBP is bad, ICE is bad, even Secret Service are bad, National Guard is bad, and Bail is bad. Enter a massive, country-wide Crime Wave (like has happened every time reactive policing has been chosen over proactive policing, never forget Rudy and NYC), and suddenly this is all backfiring on them.
Of course Republicans always knew not to blame everybody else for criminals' behavior. But the Democrats got away with their nonsense for a while - until actual human beings felt actually physically threatened. Take an extreme analogy, if someone kidnaps a room full of hostages with a gun to their head. Suddenly everyone in that room totally agrees on all the basics. Safety is universal.
Also, Democrats don't play fair - they play on people's worse instincts of human nature: Laziness and blaming others for your own failures. It's a very attractive platform, because the #1 hardest character trait in the history of all time is: Being honest with yourself. If you approach anyone (or group) in their comparative failures and offer them the chance to officially blame others for it, most people will find that offer too tempting to resist..
Now this thing in Cuba is serving to REMIND all Americans how truly immoral and grotesque is the liberals not-so-secret admiration of socialism and of historical figures in communism. Sometimes you just get lucky : )
Final note. I believe right now Democrats are panicking. They see their nonsensical platforms dissolving like sand in high tide before their eyes. With COVID receding into the background of history, (despite CNN's best efforts at "Delta, Delta, Delta").........Democrats KNOW full well that if Republicans get elected just ONE more time, their policies just may make most of the country so happy and generally well that no one will see a need to bother with all of these liberal theories ever again. As Trump so profoundly pointed out, people who are doing well tend to get a long., just like we all got along before last year when Democrats invented this idea that we were all involved in a huge, secret, racial war of some kind.
