Did you feel the quake?

not 100% sure
I woke up at 1 - but hey could of been her indoors nicking the duvet ....(she does this , but is in denial)

based in Kent - so I would of been surprised if I did feel it ..
gary

Yes it woke me, but realising what it was i went back to sleep after ashort while.
I was surprised at the panic it induced in people where there was no damage.

I'm sure Ken knows what a duvet is Gary, it's probably nicking that he is having trouble with.

Brian

Just wondering how stealing the bed covers caused the house to shake like an earth quake?

Ah! Gary did not say he felt the house shake, only that he woke up.

brian

Maybe there was a shake, she thought she was shaking 'cause she was cold and nicked the covers to get warm - ?

Apparently there was a worse earthquake in 1185 when a substantial part of Lincoln cathedral was damaged.

I live in lincoln so it was quite a shock mainly cos this sort of thing does not usually happen. What does make me laugh is some of the stupid things which people say after it. To be fair the only real damage that was done was chimeny's falling but looking at the ones which have done that they probably were going to come down at some point anyway because they have not been looked after (pointing up)

For the first time ever I did not sleep through a British 'quake. The rumbling and rattling woke me up and I know I don't snore THAT loudly but it was pretty obvious what it was - earthquake or we were about to be crushed by a large crashing space ship - in which case not much you can do....

I thought one of the best comments was " It made my grandfather clock rattle" Phew! Steady on!

People in Greece must be dying of laughter.:p

There are a large number of ancient fault lines all over the US. It's just that the ones in California get all the headlines.

The plates where the Atlantic coastal plane meets the Appalations (sp) are constantly grinding. I lived for a while in upstate NY near Lake Placid. We used to get tremors 2 or 3 times a year, only they rarely went over 3.
Enough to wake you up when you're a newcomer. Doesn't even make the local papers.
