Open a popup form showing the message. Being a popup it will stay on top.
Turn off Echo if you don't want the background stuff to be seen happening.
Close the popup form and enable echo when the task completes.

You could also consider running the background stuff hidden to stop it appearing at all.

you can also turn the hourglass on off

docmd.hourglass true/false

you can use the status bar for messages

popping up forms means you need to be able to process the end of the process, and close the form.

I've already done both of those, the only thing I'm left wondering is how to stop the title showing in the pop up form.

Hi

if you want something simple but visually pleasing, why don't you have the form only open during the recordset stuff and close when finished then put an animated gif or something to that effect so it is perpetual movement and non specific but showing that something is happening.

Google has something similar with 4 coloured balls moving left to right etc.

I guess I want my cake and eat it.

Thin keeps the title and none obviously removes the border but just makes it, in my opinion, a plain and somewhat ugly box.

I'm just wondering whether the title can be temporarily removed and restored in code.

i see

try setting the form caption to a single space in code - that might work

in the form's open event

me.caption = " "

Just the job, for some reason needed to use

forms!message.caption = " "
forms!message.Repaint

works fine.

Thanks everyone for your help, again.
