Hi All,

i am trying to open an mde file and i get this error message. i have developed this database for production in my company. But suddenly when i tried to open this after testing at the end of hte day i am unable to open it. Can anyone help me. If at least i am able to import the tables it would help as i have the main file. The error message says the folllowing:
"THE DATABASE IS IN AN UNEXPECTED STATE. MICROSOFT CANT OPEN IT"

it says i need to import the tables but when i try to import the same error message i receive

Try compacting and repairing the mdb then select debug from the vba editor. Then re make the MDE and retry.

hi,

It doesn let me even open the db to do the compact option

for testing. so maybe you have your original mdb file. maybe you could restart making new mde in replacement of your erroneous mde file.

You should still have the .mdb as well as the faulty .mde. Rebuild a new .mde from the .mdb

Hi Thank you for your responses. But the problem is that i want the data from the corrupted file. I do have the main file and i can create that is not a problem but the data that was present in the corrupted file is lost. Can i retrieve it?

Reading between the lines it appears that the MDE is not a front end of an MDB, ie. not split. And as such the OP cannot access the tables in the MDE. If it had been a split app then there would be no problem, as the back end is not corrupted. It seams to me a harsh lesson learned. I may be wrong on this and stand corrected if so, but that is what is sticking out.

Its a bit of a long shot but have you tried linking to the tables in your .mde.

true i had to learn the lesson the hard way. Does that also mean that i cannot recover? Is there a way that we can auto backup db for such scenarios not to arise again. I did try linking but it does not allow me :(
