i have a form that will be filtered for each use that displays medical patients' information, including their information (master table), drugs (child subreport), diagnosis (child subreport), and more.

however, i have been informed to design a report that compacts the information as much as possible. if a line in the report does not have a value to display, i need to omit it, and move the rest of the form up 1. this way there will be no single lines of whitespace.

does anyone have an idea of how i should go about doing this?

yeah i know i already asked in that thread, but im not quite sure how i go about playing with these? they are already both yes in my report properties.

I still suspect a design flaw, since if "a line in the report does not have a value to display", it shouldn't exist in the first place. Since you don't seem to want to fix that, if you set the height of the controls to a negligible height and the can grow to yes, you should eliminate the white space.

in these reports, some of the fields are filled out in some rows and arent in others. these are my client's personal records for his patients, and he doesnt always fill everything out.

for the pages of the report that do not have lines (such as Address2, or an optional line for a secondary address) displayed, i would like to eliminate the whitespace left inbetween.

i still dont quite understand what you are saying..

just incase, here is an example of what i am trying to accomplish:

(form example in design view)

=[Address1]
=[Address2]
=[City] & ", "+[State] & " "+[Zipcode]

(form example for patient with 2 address lines)

****
1234 numbers road
appartment 102
microsoft city, MD 12321
****

(form example for patient with only 1 address line, this is the desired result)

****
1234 numbers road
microsoft city, MD 12321
****

INSTEAD OF

(undesired result)
****
1234 numbers road

microsoft city, MD 12321
****

Not sure what's confusing about "set the height of the controls to a negligible height and the can grow to yes", but an even slicker method that I use (in the format event of the appropriate section of the report) is:

Code:
 Me.txtName = (Me.CustAttn + vbCrLf) & (CustomerName + vbCrLf) & (CustomerAddress1 + vbCrLf) _
              & (CustAddress2 + vbCrLf) & (CustAddress3 + vbCrLf) & (CustAddress4 + vbCrLf)

This takes advantage of the fact that the "+" operator will propagate nulls and the "&" operator won't.
