Hello,

I am a retired Oceanographer (hence the screen name) with 15 years of experience as a program manager. Interests include wood working, gardening and dabbling in program management activities. The last time I coded was in 1987 using Fortran77.

Based on frustrations with the lack of practical tools available for Program Managers, I have developed several ideas for management applications. I pitched them to other PM's and Business Development managers and received very positive feedback. I want to keep my mind active and continue to learn new things, hence learning to program in MS Access.

My learning approach has been to read about Access, watch on-line videos and then trial and error. I learn best through hands-on effort. Once I get comfortable with the basics and am able to articulate questions, I will invest in a formal classroom course.

Best regards,

Oceano79

Hi Oceano79,

Welcome to AWF..

I got into programming because I had a problem to solve. There's a long story, but I'll give you the short one. I wanted to find the most efficient delivery system. Route, Collection point and load size all had a significant effect on the calculation for the haulage of building Aggregates. We call this in the UK "Sand and Gravel". My company was originally called Rivar Sand and Gravel Ltd. I mention this because something else you could try is adopt a project, something you understand deeply, that involves data, calculations and things. Turn it into an MS Access program.

Cheers Tony...

Tony,

Thank you for the links and the advice. I will look for a project to adopt.

In Texas, we call building aggregates "sand and gravel" as well.

Regards,

Mike
