Hi Access People,

I have been using Access since about 1994 and Access 2.0. I am a huge fan of its versatility and productivity. I use it extensively against SQL Server. I worked for 10 years at Microsoft UK in ITG and used it to produce reporting and inhouse apps - especially for PSS as was, where I produced some of their main analysis reports. Extremely good performance was achieved using summary tables in SQL Server generated over night, and ensuring optimal indexing and database design.

My areas of interest for Access include:-

• Producing modern looking apps
• Prototyping
• Use against cloud back ends
• Use against SQL Server and other RDBMSs

In the past I produced packaged Access applications using SageKey.

Currently I am using Access against Azure SQL and Azure VM SQL Servers.

I work as SQL Server DBA, database engineer, database developer and BI Developer on a contract basis. In the last few years, I have worked for investment banks and service companies.

My areas of interest and expertise for the above roles include

• Database design and performance tuning
• Standards
• Documentation
• Building team value through documentation, standards, training, process and best practice
• Agile
• Programming and scripting
• ETL

It is great to find like-minded Access people, I hope I can contribute and share my experience.
