If you have done this, please tell me how. Both the frontend and backend are in Access, but my network guy wants me to connect them via a SQL ODBC driver instead of just linking them the regular way. I've tried everything I can think of with no luck.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Your network guy is off his rocker. You can't connect to ACCESS using a SQL SERVER ODBC connection. You CAN connect to Access using an ACCESS ODBC connection but the big question would be WHY? There is no advantage gained that I know of.

I wonder exactly same thing. What was your guy thinking of when he suggested that?

Even if we managed to do it via ODBC using SQL Server driver (perhaps by using DTS or SSIS for example), it'd be just one more layer that's entirely redundant and won't provide any benefits.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

It made no sense to me, but I'm not knowledgable in that area.

By the way, ODBC is Open Database Connectivity and it is a translation layer which allows a database to talk to various other entities (including other databases). You have to have the correct one to talk to the particular database. They aren't interchangeable.
