Personally, I am much more extreme than I was 30 years ago. When the media says that the vast majority of Australians are tolerant of queers and embrace hoardes of slopes coming.....I just jump further into hatred mode. If I was on my own then I would think...am I out of step. But it ain't that way.

Of course a side show is the Arabs hating the Asians and vice versa. That pair really hate each other.

No Mike its just you (lol).

a bit stero typing going on here - Oz men - do have a bit of a label of being
single minded or black white - with no room for cross overs on these sorts of ideas.

I can only speak for myself

I don't really care one way or the other for peoples orinatation - as long as its not in my face

as to colour/race issues
again not bothered -its how people present themselves
so if someones white and a "Dick" then thats how I see them - if they are black and a "Dick" - then they are "dicks"
if they are decent then that s how I see them and treat them

as to PC gone mad - yes -
but 9 times out of 10 its not the people who are making this up - just some busy bodies

we had a story here about the 3 little pigs and that it would cause offence to Muslims - most muslims see this as a story and not an offence - its one that been around for years -

Gary,

It would be a problem if the queer stuck his arse in your face:D

In Australia, political correctness has made things bad for the queer. Political corretness allowed for them to get political agendas up and running and in that process they have made it worse for Arabs and Asians.

Land rights for gay whales

Having to call a poofta "a gay" has only served to turn people against them. Calling it a gay, queer or poofta does not change what happens.

I guess you must know how the aborigines (sp?) in your country feel about your presence there - ?

Not at all. My taxes pay for the coons along with a bunch of the immigrants.

What taxes did the coons pay....

No problem here Ken.............but Rich might turn one up:D

Well Oz is advertised on mainstream prewatershed UK TV as a destination for homosexuals. So I guess more gay men are coming over there, being actively encouraged through tourism ads and welcomed through the front door.

As to whether attitudes have changed - would you prefer a back door entry and have you found yourself gagging, baulking or hardening with the increased homosexual presence?

One of the problems with political correctness is that some people still hate minorities. In private they continue to refer to them as "coons", "******" and "queers".
In public they now call them blacks or gay.
The wording has changed but the battle for the hearts and minds goes on.

I sometimes wonder if PC is causing more problems than it is (was) intended to solve.
Then on the other hand I wonder if it just brings to light more those that are harboring bigoted feelings just to start with.
I would think the more you expand on the differences between people, the more you cause ill will in a lot of folks.

Just food for thought to anyone who is resistant to differences...
If everyone and everything was created EXACTLY the same, this world would be a very very boring place.

Also if people are brought up being closed minded towards other people then it is harder for them to accept any changes so maybe they need a little bit of a break on the issue. I dont take offense to any non-politically correct comments if they are not spat at me with hatred or ill feelings.

well put..

also being shouted at - or forced down a route or view - always gets me going the other way - those who speak or list their views in a quite or logical manner - I will at least listen to - might not change my view - but i will do the curtsey of listen to them

The problems with political correctness are increased because it is a facade.

We have all the crap like salesperson, chairperson etc but we have mens and womens tennis, swimming etc and mens and ladies toilets.

Why don't we just have tennis, swimming and toilets. When will speeches and announcements cease starting with...ladies and gentlemen

I am slightly surprised by this. As a fellow Aussie, I have found we are more tolerant than we were 30 years ago.

Actually, I think tolerance may not be the correct term. My gut feeling is that the Great Australian Apathy says "there's too many of 'em here now, so why fight it!"

Either way, despite PC and media beat ups, I think I prefer now to then

David,

Might depend where you live.

But consider how incompetent Pauline Hanson was and the political momentum she gained.

Remember Cronulla a couple of years ago.

Yeah, you might have a point. I guess that's why I mentioned media beat ups. I'm sure a lot of these things escalate beacuase of media attention

Somebody should ice this guy...

I strongly object to that.

It is more likely that as a religious nut he has decided to back more options , he'll start wearing a turban , praying to the sun god, and thowing his runes for Odin soon.
