Hi all,
I am using Access 2007 and 2010.

I would like a text box (or label) on a report to autofil using fixed text from a label on a different (closed) form.

I would have thought this was simple but have not been able to get it to work.

Thanks in advance

Do you actually mean you want to get the label when a form closes?

Hi Uncle Gizmo, I have 5 databases in use (it is really one database used across 5 states). The only difference is the report headings and the main menu (form). Rather than put the state name on each report, I was hoping to pick up the state name via the main menu label. Does that make sense?

so if this was excel - I would simply go =[cell number]

Why is the main menu closed when you run the report?
If it has to be closed, save the app state in a public var stored in a utility module then use this var to initialize your reports ( report open event ).
If not, use forms!MainMenu!LabelName to initialize your reports.

Further to JL's comments:
Do you have 5 databases or 1 database used in 5 locations?
Is your database split Frontend/backend?
If you need "header info" based on some known list, then having a "set up " form such that the user can select requirements/options for the report is one technique that you could consider.
You haven't told us many details of what you have and what you are trying to do, clearly.

As you are discovering, this is Access not Excel, and things are not the same.

Thank you both for your help. I will try to work with these solutions and get back to you on how I went.
To answer your questions :
1/ The main menu is closed because I have it deactivate when moving to a new form (which in this case is a report hub)
2/ There are 5 databases. All split. Frontends are identical except the main menu which contains the state name and logo.
Sorry for not explaining everything properly (and for using excel as an example - just trying to explain what I was trying to do :) )
All I need is for the state name to show on the various reports but I don't want to type it in, I want to pick up the name from the main menu.
Thanks Again
Rhonda

Do the users have to Login via a screen/form of some sort?
Is each user associated with only 1 of the 5 locations?
If so, then could you have a routine related to the user login that would assign a value to your location.

eg.
CheckUser at Login
If valid then get Location from UserLocation table.
Use Location in Reports/Forms.

Just thinking and typing.

thanks jdraw, the answer to both questions is yes....so that sounds like the perfect solution - being a newbie this will take me some time to work out how to implement, and roll out is Monday :( Nevertheless I think for now I will leave the names off and work with this for the next update :) Thank you!
