I work for a communications company. We rent comm equipment to customers in the offshore oil field. Some of our customers want there rentals under one RentalNumber. Most of the customers want different RentalNumbers for each rental. The Rental locations are Rig, Shorebase, Liftboat and Boat. Equipment for the Rig and Liftboats are the same. The boats only rent radios. The Shore base rents radio, fax machines and cell phones. Here is an example list of equipment.

A Rig can choose the equip it wants to rent as follows:
1-Microwave
2-DRT
3-iDirect
i would have these in a drop down list.
a rig will have a fax, cell, and radio as a standard rental. The shorebase will also have a fax, cell and radio as rentals. What is the best way to approach this? I need to build the DB to have a form to input the rig, shorebase, and boat rental equipment on one form with a unique rental number. We also need to be able to have forms to seperate rentals for other customers. What is the best way to approach this?

Thanks in advance!
Tim

The best way is to start by doing it on paper! If you already have a system in place, then get that working properly, examine the logic, and base your software design on that.

A good tip is to use the A4 system, that is try and make each operation you do fit on one piece of A4 paper, then that piece of paper will eventually become a screen on your PC.

With the advent of larger monitors I can see this turning into the A3 system!
