Hi

Currently I am designing a basic database, at secondary school for our Music department, using Microsoft access 2003 and I wanted to know about setting up security. I am not very knowledgeable in any advanced areas of Microsoft access so I would appreciate step by step help :)

Database stores information about information on recorded and written music in the database. It needs to be available for three different groups, with slightly different accessibility for each.

·Students need to be able to access the search function part of database
·Teachers need access to search functions and two forms to edit/add or delete information
·Expert/programmer (most likely myself) needs to have access to entire database and have full control, able to change design etc in future or fix mistakes.

Any ideas or start off points would be extremely helpful, it’s due in next week!

Thanks

If you are 'not very knowledgeable in any advanced areas of Microsoft access' why would you get access to the 'Expert/programmer' areas? :p

Simple Software Solutions

Is this a real project? or simply an assignment?

Based on it being 'due in next week', I'm guessing its homework :)

Reply to answers and a few more questions

Hello to all those who've replied and anyone else

Thanks for your help. Just to clarify:

What I mean by not knowing much about Access is that I don't know all that much about codes, security, etc. I just know how to use basic database objects and a little bit more.

The project is an assignment that will, if good enough, be used for the school music department. The idea is that we research into how to use other parts of access than just the basic table, form, query etc. So it is an assignment but a real project at the same time (don't think that really makes sense :)) Also it is not meant to cost anything.

Yes, it is a homework project :D

Thanks to "Darth Vodka" for the website. I am using Microsoft access 2003, so I don't think most of information applied but help is appreciated.

QUESTIONS:
I also was wanting a bit more help with the following problems, Thanks.

To search the database I have made parameter queries and reports based on those and i was wandering if anyone knew a wildcard search formula, I have tried

Like [Question?] & "*"

But it only searches the first part of the field and I wanted it to search entire field.

I would also like another formula that searches the entire table by keyword, so the user could type in a keyword that could be found in any of the fields.

Thanks for help
Kind regards

Thanks. I have decided not to use user-level security but thanks for your help. Am currently sorting out some other security :)
