Hello,

I am new to Access and was trying to figure out a simple Count. What I want to do is Count Column A if Column B has "".

I have looked around and am sure this is easy, can anyone point me in the right direction. I use this for another item but dont know what to add to make it work like I would want.

=Count(IIf([CLASSIFICATION]="Preliminary",0))

So basically you want to know the number oftimes Col B is ""

=SUM(IIF([fieldnameofcolB]="",1,0)

Thanks for the Reply. Let me explain. Column A has initials of sales people. Column B has business prospect classifications. IE

Representative(Column A) Business Classification(Column B)

JB------------------------New Business
JB------------------------Preliminary Contact
LR------------------------New Business
LR------------------------Lost Business
TY------------------------Preliminary Contact
JP------------------------Lost Business
HT------------------------New Business

I want to tally all the preliminary contacts for say JB. I am trying to break it down as per representative and what classification their business prospects fall into. Hope that makes sense. Thanks.

How might I do that?

Initially try this
GroupBy on cols a and b then calculated field CountTot:Count(*) with Expression selected in the Total row of the grid.

Then you can add any criteria required
