The primary win by Mamdani in New York is not that surprising. He was running against Cuomo, who has lost credibility. His win also demonstrated once again that the public will vote for the politician promising the most free stuff. Mamdani was making the usual liberal promises (summarized by Grok) of:
  • Rent Freeze for Rent-Stabilized Apartments
  • Free City Buses
  • Universal Free Childcare
  • City-Owned Grocery Stores
  • Affordable Housing Construction
  • Tax Increases on the Wealthy and Corporations
  • Department of Community Safety
  • Green Infrastructure Investments
  • Anti-Hate Crime Funding
All these proposals require funding. What would be the source of the funding?

Musk through his DOGE efforts exposed that the federal government is covertly funding many of these initiatives. In what may appear to be an unrelated case: ‘Absolutely Infuriating’: Biden Admin Rushed Out $90 Billion in Green Loans After Trump’s 2024 Victory. Then there is the case of Mayor Bill de Blasio wife, Chirlane McCray, who oversaw a mental health program where it is asserted that $1 billion dollars "disappeared".

Considering that the US continues to deficit spend, federal tax dollars going to state and local municipalities for the types of programs advocated by Mamdani must be terminated. The programs Mamdani is proposing, should only be supported by New York city tax dollars. He should not be making utopian assertions in the hopes of receiving federal dollars.

It all sounds so good on paper. I'll bet when the rich call for the police they get one. It's the poor who will get social workers.

I agree. But then again, as movies often remind us, New Yorkers believe they are the center of the universe - ironically and humorously failing to realize it is the exact opposite; 99.999% of America has never been to New York and would never dream of living in such a place, nor has anything to do with its ways.

All the Democrats do is promise free stuff. From other people's tax dollars. Thou shalt not steal!

I live an hour and 20 minutes away from Grand Central Station. You couldn't pay me enough to live in that filthy, noisy, expensive, and dangerous city. The only time we ever go any more is if we have an out of town guest who wants to see it.
