I am building a database for a coworker. For one table, he'd like to extract data from different companies' financial reports, specifically a Schedule RC-B (schedule of securities). The format it comes in is PDF, but there are options to download XBRL, SDF and Taxonomy. My computer doesn't recognize any of these other formats. Plus, I'm guessing each company will have a slightly different format, so I don't know if there'd be an efficient way to set up an automatic import. Does anyone have any suggestions for importing/extracting data from these files?

Thanks,
Jeff

Hi,
Don't know much of these file formats, but my short experience tells me getting data from a pdf never gave me good results.
XBRL is an XML type (you should read about before start using), sounds like a good place to start with.

Good luck!

As an experimental step -can you copy and paste the data from any of these formats into Excel or a text file - if you can get it into either of these formats it can be imported into Access from there - even if it appears as a single string it is usually relatively easy using functions like split, replace and trim.
