Ken Higg hits 10,000 posts

All this occured within boards labelled 'non-access issues'. Using these boards and then decrying their value is puerile, IMO.

I'm honestly shocked that this action is being condoned. I call for an immediate reinstatement.

Colin, if you're out there and if you get 'unbanned', save your humor for the thicker skinned. ;)

As a long time mate of Colin's through this forum I have to agree with ouma, Colin enjoys winding people up, especially those naive enough to swallow the bait or lacking a sense of humour, particularly those without an appreciation of irony.

Am I the only one who's worried that the quality of the English language may fall drastically without Colin here to keep us write :D

Possibly:). I found Colin's failure to apply the standards he demanded from other people to his own use of language one of his more tiresome traits.

LOL, I always thought that was the irony of it all. Ah well...

Somethings in life are tiresome, all part of reality I'm afraid.

Reminds me of reading the obituaries :p

Maybe we should continue this in the 'It is sad' thread - ?

What 'It is sad' thread? Or did it get deleted because it was dealing with Col?

I know Col liked to wind people up and get them going just for the sake of it. But sometimes he just didn't know when to quit. His being banned was the result of extremely cantankerous and antagonistic behavior that has been building up for a long time. I conversed with him via PM from time to time and so I know that a lot of the time he was just winding people up. But it seems over the past couple of years that his comments had become more vitriolic. He comes across as hating everyone and everything.

I also know from a few other people (via PM) that his comments (and others) played a part in their not coming here any longer. I myself stopped visiting so much because I just got tired of reading the same crap about how bad Americans are every day. The atmosphere around here hasn't been the same for a few years. So, do we put up with his incessant "winding up" knowing that he will drive away other members who may be just as valuable (I should say I'm not referring to myself here, I don't know how "valuable" I am since I mostly just use this forum for information but post in the 'cooler)? I don't know. Should he have been banned? Again, I don't know and it's really not my decision. But I can say that I am sorry that it has come to this and I trust that the mods/administrators will make the right decision.

As for Bob, yes maybe he lost his cool but Col should not have pushed him to begin with. Especially after having been warned before. As I said, he didn't know when to quit. But I think that Bob has done a fantastic job of moderating these forums and I would like to say thanks to him for that.

Oh, and by the way, congrats on the milestone Ken, even if it was in the 'cooler. :) If I ever reach that many posts, mine will be in the 'cooler too for the most part, as usually questions that I know the answer to have already been answered before I get here. :D

Thanks Cindy, you've always been a sweetheart and a bit of peace-maker around here - :)

Just for everyone's clarification, the "It is sad" thread Ken referred to is in the VIP forum, which is only accessible to AWF VIP's.

Sorry - I just realized that as well... :)

Bob to the rescue as usual :)

Ah. Thanks for letting me know how unimportant I am. ;):D

Now you've got all us lowbies wondering what you VIPs talk about behind closed doors. ;)

Must be all about banning people.
Oh wait, let's be carefull , otherwise another lowbe will be banned without notification !

Next there'll be banning tobacco in those infamous coffee shops of yours

That is an inaccurate statement. Colin was warned MANY times over the past TWO YEARS but that didn't work. If all someone ever gets is a warning, do you think that will be effective? It sure doesn't look like it. If you notice in his reply, he mentions the fact that he's been warned before.

Don't take my note too serious Bob. Just trying to lighten up this thread.
But since we're talking about it, how would one be notified, through PM's or is there any other way ?

Normally that would be through PM's but if the situation warranted it, it could be within a thread that was posted by that person.

There is a danger of in giving someone too many warnings without taking action. I would go for a policy of a short ban if 2 warnings are ignored within a short period and then increasing the duration of further bans if the offender continues
