What I am pointing out is that the American people are up-in-arms about the realease of the Libyan to go home on compassionate grounds. Yet, according to our BBC news, seem to be treating Teddy like some kind of royalty.

There seems to be something not quite right in the Amercans reactions to both stories.

I suppose next, there will be some American sympathy for that geezer who held that girl kidnap for all those years. Her name is "Jaycee" - is that a real name? Who would christen a child with such a stupid name?

Perhaps because there are enough people eulogising him, if the death had been left as a quiet family affair then his critics would either make no comment or be justifiably condemned, but they must have the right to balance the other side if it is aired.

How much control over what was aired did the family have?
The news media made the decision to treat Kennedy as royalty, not the family.
Of course, the Kennedy family is the closest thing the US has to royalty, but Teddy was the joker, not the king.

The point is, they had no more CONTROL over the media than the Jackson family did.
I sometimes long for the days when you had to wait for the morning paper to get your news. There was no ratings driven electronic media to give events blanket coverage 24 hours a day.
Of course then we would have missed the OJ slow speed pursuit and all of the other earth shattering stories CNN seems to thrive on.

My 2005 Oxford dictionary gives both spelled and spelt as the past tense for "spell"
My Canadian Press style guide also gives both with spelled being the preferred choice.
