Good morning,

Most of my cards are 3.5" by 5.5". Of the 100,000 that I have scanned thus far, all were scanned in with the 3.5" side going in first. Yes I do have a very expensive scanner. But is is designed in such a way that there is a wheel that turns (to help advance the cards through the scanner). That wheel is located so that if the cards are scanned in with the 5.5" edge going in 1st the cards never touch this wheel. This slows down my scanning time and also causes me to have to literally stand over the machine monitoring it, which takes time away from other things I need to do as the cards are scanned.

Unfortunately there is no easy work around for me on this end. If there is not a way to do it from within the form with an easy option, I can go in manually and change the rotation of the cards. It is not so important that the cards appear on the form flipped, as I will have the actual card in front of me when filling out the form.

When it comes to the point that I am drawing from the data to populate listing forms (eBay and other selling sites, as well as my own website) I would like the images to appear 3.5" tall and 5.5 wide. I think my customers would rather not have to turn their heads to look at the images.

Hi Chris

I don’t want to step on any toes or teach granny how to suck eggs but you might be interested in a little db sample that I posted on here recently. It displays images within a web browser, the images load faster than they do in an unbound image and they also allow the original picture to be rotated without the need for any code and within the form. I think it might complement the sterling job that you have already produced for Stacey.

Yes I had already looked at your image sample in the other thread and it looks pretty good. Maybe Stacey can use it to good effect as well.

At the moment we are looking at around 1500 images in a directory which for speed sake must be loaded automatically into around 750 Inventory numbers. There appears there will be around 700 directories in total which will make up the 1,000,000 images.

So, because of the shear bulk of the images we are trying to automate the process as much as possible. From that point of view, we are looking at selecting one of the 700 directories, giving it a good name and then calculate the Inventory number during the automatic load. The images are numbered sequentially but may not be contiguous hence the need to calculate the Inventory number from the image name. That then allows the image name to be reverse calculated from the directory name and the Inventory number.

Although I have looked at your sample I must admit I have not spent enough time with it to see how it might handle the automatic load of such a large number of directories and images. It may very well be that once the images are loaded then your sample could be used for viewing but, at this stage, I don’t know.

Is version 10 the end of the development or are you still working towards version 11?
If - when you have finished I would like to play around with loading the images with a web browser if you don't mind?

It’s still ‘work in progress’ and in fact version 11 might carry quite a bit more code than version 10.

It looks like I will be looking for an automatic way to rotate all JPG’s in a directory. I think Stephen Lebans has a method to rotate BMP’s but I’m not sure if it will work with JPG’s.

And yes, just go for it. Version 11, if it ever comes, will only include the rotation but will not change version 10 in any other way. You have probably noticed I went back and removed versions 1 to 9 so that we are all using the latest version. Version 10 will stay until, and if, version 11 is done.

The free IrfanView software can rotate images in a batch mode. Easy to set up.

G’day Stacey.

To rotate all JPG images in a directory you will need to do the following: -

1. Open the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer with an image.
2. Do a rotation.
3. When you get the message ‘In future, do not show me this dialog box.’ click the box.
4. Click Yes.
5. Close

If you want to re-instate that message, hold down the <Control> key when closing the application.



That’s the good news, and now for the bad news.

I’ve had to use what’s called SendKeys, I don’t like it but it got the job done.
An image rotation will take around 3 seconds, about 4 seconds for a 180 degree rotation, and that means it will take a long time running through a directory.

The good news is that it is much faster than doing it manually.

However, I think that everything else running on the computer, during the directory rotate, should be shut down.

Version 11 is attached.

Ive taken Version 11 and had a play around with viewing the images on a web browser. It allows individual images to be manually rotated on the form.

Its not been fully tested but let me know what you think.

The yellow highlighted code is on the creation of the 2nd Shortcut so 1 must have already been created.

Has a new folder next to 'InventoryPictures_11_Web_Version.mdb' been created called 'Thumbs' and are there any shortcuts in it?

Does 'targetpath' have any value and what is it?

GetimagePathAndName should be returning the path to the second 'Back' image.

From the Crash Pic that you sent I can see that it has created the first Shortcut (face-IMG_0502) so the 'thumb' folder exists.

Does 'IMG_0502' exist in your Inventory folder?

A new directory was created and it only contains 1 file Face-IMG_0501.jpg and that is a shortcut to a Face file.

The reason for the crash appears to be that there is no matching Back image for that Face image. So if a call to GetImagePathAndName(Any arguments) returns a zero length string that return value should not be processed.

That was part of the specification of construction stated many post back and works fine with my version.

I hope that helps but I really don’t want to get too involved with de-bugging the code because I don’t really understand it.

Not sure what happened at your end. Attached is my Temp directory with some jpgs named DSCFxxxx. I batch rotated them(right) and renamed to Imageyyy.jpg

Worked ok for me.

Certainly agree that this would be something for Steacy.
