Thanks all, yea, not bad. Wife got me a device for my key ring that comes with a base unit, mounted in a cupboard, press the button and my keys beep. Fantastic, 'recon this will add about a year to my life. Ok, it doesn't work when I'm not home but I don't seem to loose my keys when I'm not home.

Maplins here are selling a device with 20 or so small adhesive tags, you put one on your specs, wallet, keys, wife or anything you habitually mislay and the hand held locator finds them up to 180 metres away. Mind you I'd lose the locator but it's a step in the right direction.
