Not at all. I was responding to the obvious suggestions that Ouma should be pacified because the convicted probably didnt do it anyway. I don't see how Ouma should be soothed by the argument that their judicial system knowingly accepted a 'patsy' who has now been released for 'oil'.

These are the scenarios put forward by others to which I am responding.

Scenario b states
b) No accountability for this act of terrorism as it seems to be ok to release a convicted murderer

We release convicted murderers all the time, like I said should we adopt the hang em high philosophy?

I only offered comfort in the idea, that he was innocent, and the Libyans weren't putting two fingers up - simply welcoming an innocent man home.

Its fairly clear in my first post.

Releasing him makes no differnace to 1) or 2) - they have already happened.

3) happened anyway - cos thats how it all came about anyhow.

4)Well if you see him as innocent - its not really state propaganda - its perfectly understandable.

Not likely in my book - the only work they would do would be to dig their own graves. There are enough unemployed and hungry to do the rest of the work in the world.
Absolutely! And, as already stated in this thread, DNA can prove who did it, if the proof is conclusive why should tax payers have to keep them? If we insist on imprisoning people for wrong doing, at least let them work their passage.

I didn't do much studying of the incident in question, but I did find it funny that several higher-ups in the USA are sending formal letters to Scotland informing them of their displeasure. And a website has sprouted up encouraging the boycotting of any products coming out of Scotland. And the Scottish authorities quickly called a special session of their government in order to discuss the entire situation.

Americans are also being urged to boycott the whole of the UK - especially Scotland.

Won't that be a shame if they do?:):):)

and by doing so bringing forth the idea that the Scottish authorities had been deceiving their public from the point the attack occured as opposed to just over the past few days. Not comforting at all from my point of view.

If you think presenting an amicable meeting between a recently liberated citizen and the head of state to the Libyan nation was not a political manoeuvre then fair enough. I viewed it differently.

The points were responses to the presumption that he was innocent.

If it's ok to release a convicted murderer because he's 'probably innocent' then there is no weight of accountability for the crime. There has been no pursuit of justice because the true culprits have never been pursued.

This is why condoning the release of a convicted man because he 'probably didn't do it' is entirely unsatisfactory from my point of view.

Frighteningly they could do the same as they did when France wouldn't back the attack on Iraq. Congress suggested a change in names of all things French - French fries were to be Freedom fries; French Toast - Freedom toast. I wonder what alternative they'd have for Scotch? Mmm, "A nice glass of Moron anyone?"

Actually, that's unfair, most of the real Scottish people feel the exact same as I do.

Two wrongs don't make a right:eek:

They dont, yet a lot of these people strive to make the Sharia (or what ever you call it, moslim law) the base for all. If given a 'real' choice a lot of them would prever to live 'at home' but they cannot do without their Laptop, Iphone, NDS, PS3, etc...
Also they absolutely NEED a satalite dish so they can keep up to date with all the news IN THEIR OWN LANGUAGE, not dutch, not English nor French or German... THEIR OWN LANGUAGE, though many of them have been born and raised in where ever they happen to live now...

You got to take the good with the bad, not take a bit from here a bit from there oh and I like this, but no... not that... etc...
Hypocrites, each and everyone!

Yes please!

If I murder someone I can expect to be out in what? 3 years? Because, obviously, I'm going to be on my best behaviour. So, I do my 3 years and find that it's no big deal, I might as well do it again, after all the lust for blood beckons. Next time I do what? 3 years again? After all, at my trial they are not allowed to bring up previous offences, are they? Ack, but, what the hell, in for a penny, I might as well just get all that blood lust satisfied while I'm out...

Then again, I guess if you're going to get hanged for it you also might as well take as many people out first as you can manage. :(

Certainly, they should never, ever, (ever infinity) be allowed out until their time is served.

I don't mind too much if they want to keep their language alive, I think it could be a good thing, lets them talk about you behind your back while you are there ;)

What bugs me is when people come from other countries and insist that they live under the rules of their country / religion regardless of what ours says, but don't let us try that in their country.

i agree, if i walked into a bank with my face completely covered like in a helmat Id probably be escorted out as i would be seen to be a threat! but, if I chose to wear a mini skirt in certain countries Id be locked up for indecency. double edged sword if you ask me.

I've often thought of wearing a hijab just as a courtesy to passing strangers, but I doubt that would be too well accepted, someone would think I was taking the preverbial. Shame though, I could have been doing a favour to anyone who should chance upon me on a dark night :D

Actually, depending on what your legs look like, you'd possibly be stoned for wearing a mini skirt, and not in a good way either. ;)

All sarcasm aside, I am talking not about people who go abroad at a later age.
People who emigrate (willingly I might add) do usually have a language problem ...

Not that oh say a dutch man (or atleast not me) would think to emigrate to France without speeking French... Or to the US without talking English...
For some reason there are these people that go work/live abroad without speaking the language of where they are going... Even English people I see sometimes starting a new (on TV) in Spain or France running into trouble for not speaking the local language, HOW STRANGE is it that you run into trouble if you do not speak the local language???

However this language when you go abroad at say age 25-30 is and always will be your second language.
The "next" generation born in that very country though shouldnt have such a big problem as they will enjoy their education in this "new land". They however have heavely influenced by their parents and thus might still have (some) understandable hinderence from this.

HOWEVER I am talking about the 4th or even 5th generation of "foreigners" that STILL regard their "home land" as beeing their "home" dispite living here since birth...
Dispite their grandparents having lived here since birth...
They still regard themselves Chinese, Turkish, Indian, Marrocan

If I were to go to say Spain, sure I will always be Dutch... My Children should problably feel part dutch as they have been raised partially in holland and are "near enough" to be dutch... But at some point spanish is going to have to be "the rule" right?? You are just putting your children in the back seat if you insist they talk dutch at home... While they have to learn and earn a living in Spanish? I just dont get this...

Yeah, its pretty sad how up in arms our politicians can get certain groups of people in America. Pretty much if you say "America is the greatest country in the world" you can than follow that with any innane statement and people will agree with you.

I think it's the same in America. The Americans still see themselves as "Irish"; "Polish"; "Italian" and so on even though their fifth sixth generation.

I agree with the Brits emigrating to the continent. They should learn to speak the language before they go. You rarely find Europeans working in the UK who can't speak a word of English. Look how many Europeans post on here, very few of us Brits would even consider posting in a foreign language even if we were fluent.
