Hi all,

couldn't think of a good title for this thread, but here is what i am asking... :)

I have made a DB in access 2010 for my dads small business, that simply acts as an address book for him. So he can enter names of people that has either booked with the company, or who has just simply contacted for a quote.

i have a switchboard where he can add a new customer, view existing customers and also close the DB. Nice and simple for him! ;)

how do i make the database accessible for the two of us?... for example i am in London, he lives in Essex, and i want to be able to see the updated version of the database everyday, seeing how many customers etc he has added, and vise versa. Is there a way to do this?

thanks in advance

Al

You would have to either remotely host the database and then you would both log in to the remote host to view the database. Or to log on to your dads network/pc you would have to remotely log in to the computer/network via a remote desktop connection or software such as team viewer or logmein.

Thanks James, i didnt know if Sharepoint was the answer, but it seems silly to spend money hosting it when its really only for 2 people. I use Team Viewer a lot all ready, so viewing the database like that can work.

Cheers

I believe you would have to pay to use Sharepoint as well and it's probably no cheaper than remote hosting so free 'log in' software is probably the way forward.

one alternative is for the "home" database to email you with a spreadsheet say of data you are likely to need while out and about.

surely once a week, or even once a day would be adequate.
