My Country, Your country

So if you click edit on your post #19 and/or #20 you don't see any Font markup wrappers like John highlighted in post #4?

The forum reply editor defaults to a standard font, even when you copy and paste, unless something else happens to change the font in the editor. I wrote this in Times New Roman 28 using Notepad, but when I copy and paste the forum editor ignores that formatting unless I do something to enforce the formatting in the editor (i.e. I use the advanced editor and specifically select the Times New Roman font and size 28).

If you're not doing that, then something else (so far unexplained) is happening to insert the font wrappers when you post.

I is possiblr that is om his end. Know why the spell cheker her doesn't work?

see you all tomorrow, I have an early brekfreat meeting

Dick, have you ever tried using Firefox? If the whole purpose of you copying and pasting from Word is for the spellchecker, Firefox has a built-in spellchecker. Or try to find and enable a spellchecker add on for IE (with a quick search I found: http://iespell.com/)

Chrome has a spell checker too. I try not to cast too many spells though.

Hi Adam,
iepedll is suppose to be the default speel checker on this forum, but I have tried to down load it three or four times and nothing. I don't have the time right now to start the learning curve on anyother browser.
any mis spleelng is do to numb finger and brain before I have another cup of coffee.

There's not really much of a learning curve. Firefox is awesome. Just download, install, and go! It works just like any other browser really, just better. You can even install ad-block plus to increase your page load times across all sites.

IMO, this thread has gotten way off topic. Who cares what font is used? It wasn't unreadable. At least he didn't post it in Comic Sans Lime Green! :D

I love America: to visit. Really no point in moving there though as we have already found our paradise in Canada, with all its faults. We have travelled a lot around the world and seen lots of places but decided that what we were getting in Canada was worth settling into and staying. We have also travelled all over North America, so much to see and do, and surface travel is far better then flying and missing a lot along the way. We have a preference to take the older 2 lane highways to see the countryside in better detail, though over the past decade a lot of the older features are being replaced by big box stores and fast food. Lots of towns seem to have a hollow shell of what once was main street with many vacant store fronts and on each end of town there are 'factory outlets'. Sad progression in our opinions.
The closing of the political border between the nations makes people going either southbound to the US or north to Canada feel a little unwelcomed as compared to pre 9-11. However the security checks are well worth it as the people we have met and places we have seen in your country are well worth the effort and inconvenience.

BTW - thanks for the education of selecting font sizes and styles, not so important to waste so many posts over, just change the screen resolution if someone is typing too big or small.
Dont worry about spell check, someone is likely to point out mistakes in spelling and grammar if they have the time to clamp down on font choices.

Hey Everybody,

I just thought of a tread that I would fine interesting. I love my country (America) with all its faults. I would like to hear from people from other countries, from people that have visited or even just heard about things about America. I would like to hear pros and cons. Please all of you don’t make it just a bash America thread, so if you are going to list a con you have to list a pro. I would also find it interesting if someone started a thread about their country. If you do start one please send me a heads up in case I miss it on new threads.

Or hold CTRL and press +. This will increase the page size without a need in changing resolution. This works in IE and Firefox. I'm not sure about other browsers.

CTRL and - will have the opposite effect.

But why should I have to take action when the default is legible.

If you want people to read your posts it beholds you to take care, I always reread, check and correct my posts, not that I will always catch everything, but knowing I have a sight disability means that I take extra care, not use it as an excuse.

You're right. I was just pointing out a simple feature not a lot of people know about. ;)

I love Canada also, although I might be a bit prejudice as my mother was born in
Three Rivers. My parenteral Grandparents were born in Nova Scotia.

Yes Brian you are right, but when we get old and feeble the memory goes. Espically when I am in a rush and I want to get out a post before I have to do somethng else. The other problem is that when I put it in the forum editor it looks different than after I hit send, and if I don't go back and check it a third time I miss it.

If its not too late to get back to the thread topic I have visited America about 10 times, business, fly drive and coach tours. There is a lot to see and do in the US and once you get past the miserable gits at the borders Americans are welcoming and generous, I can only assume that the loud mouthed arrogant brats are all touring the world putting it to right because that's the only time I've met them.

There appears to be a certain unworldliness about some small town Americans, we lost count of the number of times we were asked if we ever had tea with Charles and Diana, perhaps they were winding us up. Americans also seem to think that Britain = London but then so does the BBC.

And in case col ever visits this thread the only time I saw a gun was on the hip of a cop in LA who was friendliness itself when helping us when we were tired and lost in Reina del mar (sp).

Oh, the thread topic!

I stopped over to LA on the way to South America. All the people I met there were really lovely.

We deal with TSA just as much just flying within our own borders. It really is quite a pain.

There is quite a bit of ignorance about the outside world in small towns in the US. I think it's partially due to the sheer size of the entire US and the fact they don't really get out of their own surrounding areas much coupled with upbringing. I'm sure this is true for all countries though. There are a few members on this forum alone who are quite ignorant of how it really is in America as well, without going into any names. I'm sorry you experienced this slight annoyance though, was it perhaps in a Southern state? :D

...maybe it wasn't a Southern state... :p

No, guns aren't all over the US and unless you find yourself in a very bad area and pick a fight with someone or try to commit a crime on someone who happens to be a carrier, you will probably never see one while visiting unless it's strapped to a police officer's belt.

I'm glad you enjoyed your visit. I plan on coming to the UK soon. I actually wish to travel through England and Ireland. I haven't been out of the country in a while and my trip to Costa Rica was cancelled due to drama with friends.

No, guns aren't all over the US . . . . . .you will probably never see one while visiting unless it's strapped to a police officer's belt.

But the cops always seem to draw their guns on the police footage programmes, then get the poor motorist to lie down arms spread, legs spread just for a minor traffic offence.

Plus, people here seem to have guns just to satisfy their lust for killing animals. Don't supermarkets there stock meat? Why do you have to go out and kill animals to eat?

Col
